Imperial Egg
Level 75
Damage : 99
Delay : 999
CHR+3 Ranged Accuracy+99 HealHP+3 Add effect : Provoke

 there's a +1 version too.

Can you imagine if throwing weaponskills were added? NIN/SAM would probably be the best damage dealer.

Ofcoarse, I'm sure the chances of getting ahold of one is slim to none. :p None has even been sold on my server. Good part is is that it's a ranged weapon, not ammunition like shirokens. Has anybody tried using it? With NINs A+ in throwing, I'm sure they're the best class to use it.

delay=999 which roughly translates into crap, now i know melee weapons w/ additional effects don't always work, not sure about this specific item, but yeah, if u wanna play ninja 99% of the time your subbing war, this item is a toy

Additional provoke isn't the point, it's the 99 damage. Pull with that and it'd do outstanding damage. And if throwing weaponskills were added, the 99 damage would make the WS do AMAZING damage.

i dont think this egg is reusable, like a boomerang so if you throw it you waste it so it turns into a worthless item imo

This item makes you get provoke without having WAR as sub job. So you can be NIN/SAM with Provoke

but wouldn't throwing faster, less dangerous weapons produce the same effect? and i really don't htink it gives you provoke, sounds like its a proc from throwing, like morian thalums

I agree with Bamce. No added effect weapons give you the ability, it only goes off every now and then.

but wouldn't throwing faster, less dangerous weapons produce the same effect?

Yeah, the DPS is crappy, but if throwing weapon skills are added then delay doesn't matter. Can you imagine doing a weaponskills that like Sidewinder with a 99 damage weapon?

Assuming you could get a large number of these (I think they are going for about 600k on Midgard), they would absolutely, indisputably be better than Provoke. No contest.

99 damage is good and fine. But 999 delay = 10 seconds. That means that you can throw one every 10 seconds. 10 second provoke = mayor of hatesville.

And for the record, on consumable ranged weapons, add'tl effect procs almost every time.

Hrm I don't have much experience using ranged weapons, but don't you get locked in a 'ranged attack' pose for the duration of the delay, before you actually throw/shoot? That would mean 10 seconds of just standing there doing nothing ... no attack ... no blink ...

That's true, and I guess for a NIN (who needs to cast a lot in order to tank) it probably wouldn't work as well. For any other tank (PLD or WAR), it would be unbeatable, though. There's really no need to do anything else when you are provoking 4 times every 30 seconds. Other classes could spam 2hr and the mob wouldn't care.

add effect = When weapon is used (or thrown in this case)

I'm pretty sure it's a rare, single-use throwing item.

So...

Purely speculation, but maybe its role is in Dynamis. According to FFXI MysteryTour (http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/index.html) , there are a few weapons with 999 delay and poor regular stats that have really good stats in Dynamis. I have no idea if this might apply to Imperial/Tsar's Egg: its stats look good, but put into practice, it doesn't seem terribly practical. On the other hand, there's no mention of anything suggesting that on MysteryTour, so I don't know. (Though, it does say it's EX, which it's not...)

EDIT: Just looked on the AH again. Neither Imperial nor Tsar's is rare, which means both I and FFXI MysteryTour are wrong on that count. ^^; Still, it doesn't seem terribly practical for its price tag.
