View Full Version : Whats the best leveling priority? Subjob first or Mainjob first?

Is it considered "wise" to level a WHM or RDM to 30 (or 37) before turning into BLM and going all the way to 75?
I want to be a BLM mainjob, but obviously BLMs are expected to have atleast WHM subjob, if not both RDM and WHM.
Also, because I am a Hume, and therefore have lower INT than a Taru, is it better to be an RDM over a WHM for that INT bonus?

It's up to you, really. Some like to get the sub leveling out of the way right off the bat. I perfer to keep my main and sub close in level so I don't have to keep 2 sets of gears in my already crowded storage.
RDM sub gives you 1 point of INT over the WHM sub at lower levels, 2 points after mid, and ultimately, 3 points near the top. Not really significant enough a reason. You also get less MP with RDM sub. If you must choose one sub over another, do it based on the abilities and spells.

RDM = a stronger BLM , while WHM give status curing and erase (if you plan on being WHM, GET ERASE, it makes a pt with just BLM and RDM do-able). As a hume, you should cure every once in a while to keep healer mana high since your cures are semi efficient and +mnd isn't too bad to get.

its easy for a while, level to18 get sub, level to 20, now u can exp in qufim leveling both mages till about 25, go to kazham level both mages again tillaround 30, then uc anlevel black and white till like 35ish at the same time, then shelf whichever sub u want till like 70

Fastest way is
Main to 18 get subjob
Subjob to 37
Main job to 75
You sub will never fall behind ( except your main will be 1 lvl behind as a sub for your subjob when you HIT 37.. doesnt matter.. you dont need to lvl it anymore anyway).
My personal preference though is to get sub a fewl levels above 1/2 main lvl then switch when you are about to get behind. It breaks up the monotony for me.

My method for levelling my BLM sub (for WHM main) has been thus far to level 5 levels of BLM, then level 10 levels of WHM, then level 5 levels of BLM, then 10 of WHM. This is mainly, though, because I don't particularly like levelling BLM and am trying to break up the unpleasantness of it into as small of chunks as I can manage.

clearly i procrastinate (look at my subs) but recently i decided to level white mage!
i quit after 10 minutes..
here's what happened
*switch to WHM*
1) get gear
2) teleport to konstacht and find a PT in valkurm
3) get a PT! yeah!
4) leave the pt after 10 minutes becuase it sucks
5) go "Hey, Shakrimi was good on my BLM!"
6) decide to go to shakrimi
7) relize i'm rank 1 on this character
8) rank up to 4
9) get a khazam invite to a PT.
10) continue procrastinating
11) finally realize its time to level whm
12) arrive in shakrimi
13) think the entire time " i wish i was on my BLM..."
basically, when i'm leveling a far behind sub, the whole time im thinking "man, i wish i was on my blackmage, this sucks"
so i suggest getting SUB to around a good point, i'm at 27, gunna take my sub to 16 before i level. that will give me curaga at 32, which could last me up to ~level 35, even tho the sub will fall one level behind at 34. i like to get the sub up for ""noticable"" spells, and 1-2 levels behind doesn't make me feel like a noob, even though alot of people like full subs
*noticable as in Cure II at 11,... Curaga at 16, etc.

and then your tanked gets petrified by the tormentor and you are all screwed.

because blm's can cast stona...right? (Stona = lv39 whm spell)
unless Erase gets rid of petrified status, but I was under the impression that erase only got rid of things that there wasn't a -na for.

You are quite correct: erase doesn't affect petrify. I think the point is that even though RDM and BLM can cover healing (especially at higher levels), they're missing a lot of the things that make WHMs extremely valuable (like, say, stona, higher level regens, raise II and III...).

Well that's my point:
If you're fighting something that you couldn't -na away the status effects anyways...how is that an arguement to use /whm? If you couldn't help as a /whm, you might as well sub /smn for auto-refresh and blinkga...

It's kind of hard for me as a WHM, I really really hate being the main healer...the only times I've had a smooth time as a healer is when there was another there.
I went to lvl my WHM in Valk the other night
PT1: SMN, WHM (me), 2 BLMs, MNK, DRK.....We died a few times unfortunately. For one, I was used to having a set tank in the limited PT experience i had before. I knew i was a crappy healer..i said it a few times before in the PT but i guess no one wanted to be rude to me...so the had to "logoff"
PT2: dont remember the PT setup but the puller was a disgrace...he kept pulling and attacking things on the way to the camp, therefore we kept getting aggro from gobs around while tryin to fight something he pulled, again I was the only healer....yes I'm a taru but our MP can only go so far against 3 ITs, thankfully I was'nt the reason the PT dissapated this time
PT3: Beautiful, 2 BLM, WHM(me again), PLD, RNG, and something else....I leveled twice because I only had to focus on the puller (RNG) and the Tank...we killed IT damselflys and gobs somewhat easily and breeze through xp. At the end of each IT I still had over half my MP
I dont know why i shared those PT experiences >.> But that night seemed vary interesting ^^;;
The whole time as a WHM, watching the other BLMs. I kept sayin in the back of my head *those guys don't know what they're doing...i wish i was my BLM -_-;*

I really don't enjoy playing whm, but I have to say that I'm a better whm than any I've partied with before (up until recently...<3 Jazy ^^). I use less than 100-150 of my 400+ mp per battle, and I keep everyone in the group cured and status-effected-less. Generally, in groups with another whm, I find myself spending the majority of my time not curing at all, because the other whm throws a cure III where a cure or cure II would have sufficed (especially in a party with another whm), so I just sit back, keep bars refreshed, etc. The only thing I wish I did that I don't always do is use juice. One time I had a friend with me, and he just constantly fed me pineapple juice, and we burned through 28-31 in a few hours.
Anyways, whm I've found is generally pretty easy. The only time I've ever had someone die in any of my parties was when the party at lv~28-29 took on a gob in Yhoator jungle, and (with barfira up) a member took something like 1k damage from bomb toss. Bottom line - didn't even leave me room to do anything.
Blegh, I hate playing whm. People are so impatient. Every damn time protect falls, I get 6 notifications in on my screen, I don't need every melee in the party reminding me of it. And if I'm resting, and the puller is away from the camp, don't tell me you need protect. I know you do, I'll cast it when the puller gets back. Bah. Or when I fight things that use status effect crap (mandragora right now, poison), and I use poisona *literally* as the animation for the attack happens, please, give me some damn respect and don't use a macro like:
!!!! <|Poisoned|>!!!!!! <|Poisona|> <|Please|> <call>!!!!
Seriously, not needed. Blegh. And I hate tells for raises...and I also hate /anon...als;fkj
someone is a little self conceited here....
