I just unlocked DRK but, before I play it... I need some advice.

1st off, is the invites... now, on my server, there are a huge amount of DRKs... so, that means I'll have alot of competition. With that being said, I heard, most servers are basically the same. So, in conclusion: you would have alot of competition too. Will I still/get any invites? (I know I will, but, how long do I have to wait, etc.) Some people say they get alot of invites... some say they have to rely upon a circle of friends... well what is it... (I can't do the friends thing being I only play on weekends [due to personal reasons] I can make a friend... PT with them, and then weekdays hit, I come back on the weekends and *BAM!* 5 Lv's ahead of me...

2nd, is it hard to keep up with the job? (Getting equipment spells, etc.)

Thanks!

play with RL friends =D if none then ... hope for an invite.

spells are cheap ... most expensive is 30k aspir (that's on my server ... could be 50k or even 10k on yours)

equipment can be both expensive and cheap.

GOOD Equipment is expensive ... Bad equipment, obviously less expensive (i just sherlocked it up).

I have been playing drk for some time now, pt invites may become a big issue at later lv's, if you don't have a set pt. You are just going to have to hope for one, you can end up waiting for 2 hour's at times.

Drk does have a respectible amount of spell's. The most expensive would have to be Absorb-Dex. This is going for 400k on my server. The rest reach a max of around 30k or so.

Equipment: All job's have their ok equipment, and their really good equipment(Alot more expensive)

Post 40 it becomes hell with a lack of rdm/brd, sometimes tank as well. Until then the random invite rate isn't too bad.

i disagree fuz, 40-50 WILL FLY BY AS A DRK.

Where you will want to kill someone and quit the game is between 50-60.

If you do not make YOUR OWN parties in this level range, you will never get invited.

THE ONLY PEOPLE who i receive invited from are RL friends, and friends ive made throughout my time on Fairy.

i've waited as much as almost a month before i got an invite as a drk, but i was off and on at times. if i just stay on, usually i get an invite within 6 hours.

I find equipment as a DRK to be fairly inexpensive
spells are inexpensive also
drain and aspir are practically free, u have to do quests for them, since u neeed to do the quests anyway for other things, the spells are a bonus
most expensive spell is abs-dex but that's not really worth the asking price

equipment starts getting pricey at lvl40+, like sniper ring, valkyerie mask, both 200-300k items, but they're not required to have, you can get by with them assuming u eat eat meat and wear top notch equipment, lifebelt is cheap at lvl48
i got my sniper ring at lvl40 and missing was a thing of the past, so if u want to be a good drk, dress properly and eat meat, ppl will love you and invite you, at later lvls, ppl don't advance as fast, so u may be able to party with the same group of ppl at lvl50+ on a weekly basis

You can do fine with only Scythes prior to level 66. But before level 49, it's extremely useful to have a GS level'd for Power Slash -> Viper Bite. Level them both, if you can't keep up, keep scythe maxed, and try to keep GS as close as possible(I regret that I wasn't able)

if you think you can sit in front of PC for 1-10 hours a day then getting DRK to 60+ shouldn't be a problem for you. it can be 30mins or 10hours for an invite. some JP will not invite anyone that is JE or E. not only DRKs will be your competition SAM, RNG, DRG, MNK, WAR are also your competition.

3 main issues you will be deal with about PTs.
1. JP vs EN
2. level gap vs xp
3. melee jobs more than mage (suport) jobs, and usually PTs are 3melees/3mages.

however finding PT problem is not only for DRK, i'd say all melee jobs have the same problem and white mage will have problem finding PT too at some point. if you can't stand waiting for PT atleast 5 hours then you better play a bst, rdm, brd or smn. nin and pal can get easy pt invite sometimes.

about gearing up, just stop xp and take time to farm and buy upgrade its easier than finding PT i would say.

getting PTs is all about reputation. adequte rank, subjob, special notes in your search comment, will all help to mitigate the wait in higher levels. for instance, i put "[sniper's ring]x2" and "[everywhere] ok" in my comment because i hope that it will set me apart from the other melees searching for PT.

in the early lvls, what i did to maintain scythe and GS was switch off whenever a better weapon presented itself. so bronze zaghnal (lv1 scythe) to lv5, then deathbringer until lv10's legionnaire scythe, then legionnaire scythe until braveheart (lv18), then braveheart alternating with cruel scythe (lv20), etc. only now is GS starting to fall behind scythe, but it's mostly because the GS available at my lvl is nowhere near as good as its scythe counterpart. at 55, i'll join genkai1/2 and coffer PTs in order to catch GS back up.

It's all about street creds. Build it up as soon as you can party with your DRK (Level 10). Mind your mannerisms, be polite (esp in JP party), and above all else, learn to have fun with these people.

Make sure you take the time to adequately upgrade your equipment. If you find yourself w/o enough time online to farm, craft, etc. then at least upgrade portions of equipment that you think will best lend to your assets as a DRK. Not everyone can afford the peacock charm and 2 sniper's rings at that level and flaunt it in public.

Also, play your job smart. Don't be foolish and start spamming Soul Eater like no tomorrow once you hit level 30 on your job. Team work requires you to throw out your ego and work together as a team. This also means that if a particular renkei is setup for a mob due to the mob's affinity to that renkei, don't bitch and whine if it means you need to use Slice instead of Shadow of Death or anything similar.

One more note. Use your comment. Announce to the public your time availability which you need to update constantly (I have 6 hours from this time that I can stay with your PT) or a goal (When I hit level 42 tonight, I will go to bed). Your TNL to level and other stats, like ATK and ACC or something similar. If you are in mid 20s, make sure you let them know that you have a Kazham Pass. Higher levels, put in (Willing to Travel) and don't go on /anon unless you're a RDM or WHM (for obvious reasons).

Good luck
