My friends and I are forming a party and this is what it looks like so far....

Elvaan Pld/War
Hume Drk/?
Hume Smn/Whm
Taru Blm/Rdm
Elvaan Rdm/?

Ok...My questions are what should the Elvaan Red mage and the Dark Knight Sub? Also what class should we get for a sixth member, and for the last question will this be a good party?

Thanks ahead of time for all your help

Your party setup seems fine. Its not unusual to see a Summoner sub white mage and play the healer role. If the summoner doesn't have any avatars other than Carbuncle, thats gonna be his main job anyways. The red mage being there provides debuffing and supplementary heals. So you are covered with healing.

I would recommend your sixth slot being Thief (I'm a thief so maybe Im biased). But a thief adds a liitle more damage at lower levels and if you can setup the skill chains thf can add some serious firepower with a Sneak Attack in the skillchain. Later Thief can use Trick Attack to ensure Hate stays on the Paladin since you dont have a practical secondary tank other than the Dark Knight (and thats only if the Drk subs war). Thief/Ninja is a popular combo, but subbing warrior for berserk and provoke (bad situations where you provoke and use perfect dodge to try and get a 30 second window to get pt on its feet again) or Monk and using H2H for Raging Fists later :spin: . If you dont want Paladin being the only reliable tank job in your group, Samurai or Warrior make good 6th slots too. Having a thf makes your party a very delicate, but well oiled machine. Having a second tank is only if you dont think you can keep your paladin up all the time.

For the Red Mage I would definitely recommend Black Mage. extra MP and at higher levels extra mp is nice to have with a good convert, downtime is nil. Sub white mage only if you think the summoner needs a hand with the Curagas (thats aboutt he only reason).

For the Dark Knight sub warrior at early levels an extra provoker is nice but berserk and higher strength bonuses compliment better to the drk knight. At higher levels subbing thf is better to help improve accuracy and Trick Attack is a good way to use Guillotine without getting Hate.

This is only my opinion, everyone has there own Im sure. And above all, as long as your having fun, who cares what your pt make up is... very few pt formations fail as long as you have the basic setup which your 5 current already possess.
