expose of cheat site - including "cheats"

i was curious to see if S-E was really keeping a lid on cheating so i finagled (did not pay for!) an account at a cheat site.

they charge $19.95 and they have info on several other mmorpg (swg, uo, EQ) that i didn't bother to look at. however, you'll be happy to know that the ffxi "cheats" they post are nothing more than crafting recipes and some faqs from other sites. here's the complete list of "cheats" they offer, and what they actually are. it's pretty funny because all of them are common knowledge to anyone who's played for even a short time:

XPing w/ out doing anything is VERY easy, if your a caster, simply get in a full group, once every 20 min or so cast a few buffs ect and just say bio break or something like that....we actually do that all day here

Gil Exploit - a non-working (according to posted comments) gil dupe

35k Gil an Hour - he suggests making new chars and doing quests!

Run FFXI in Window Mode!
this is just a link to a program that many ppl know about that runs directx apps in a window. easy to find with google.

Infinite MP Exploit
LOL! check this out:
Stand outside a Mog house, and heal (or enhance) yourself over and over.. when you run out of MP go inside the Mog house and back out again, and you will find yourself at full MP again.. so keep healing yourself and doing this and watch your skill rise very quickly!

so i hope this makes people feel better about the game, and hopefully saves someone from wasting $20 (although you probably deserve to waste it if you want to cheat).

and please, don't flame me. i didn't EXPECT to find any cheat but i wanted to hurt the business model of ppl selling cheats.

Reminds me of the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System when you used to get "cheats" for games on the back of cereal boxes (crossover marketing promotions). They'd say things like "Free extra lives in Super Mario 3: Get 100 coins on any stage and you get a FREE life". For god's sake, it says that in the MANUAL (like in FF11 manual it says you get full hp/mp when you enter your mog house). These websites are exactly the same as cereal boxes except they cost more and you don't get any cereal for your trouble :mad: .

I've been very impressed with how Square seems to squash cheats/exploits rather quickly.

Back in November, they fixed a bug (at least I haven't seen this since they claimed to have fixed it) where people were running at ridiculous speeds. I think you know the bug that I am talking about. They were "warping" to different parts of the map and it appear that they were lagging, yet running at choco or THF flee speed (w/o THF job/subjob obviously).

I've also heard that they actually investigate almost all of the "botters." One guy had a macro that I guess was buying Moat Carp at the AH. No idea how that worked. But his macro screwed up and he was dishing out a lot of commands in /say. Needless to say no one saw him around for a few days. :rolleyes:

Square needs to be careful with cheats/exploits. EQs economy was destroyed by the infamous "money press" macro and the supposed (I never saw it) plat dupe.
