Hey all,
I'm a newly converted 50DRG/25DRK to 15RDM/7BLM (a whole day's worth of grind ;D), and I'd like to know about locations to purchase magic.
Thus far, the lowbie NPC store in PortWind has been good for most of my white / black magic, and the NPC store in LowerJeuno has been good for some of the bar spells. I've noticed however, that it's time for me to start picking up some en- spells, but I don't believe I've ever seen them for sale at an NPC shop. Do they sell these scrolls at NPC shops? If so, where? :)
Also, are there any spells out there that you guys haven't seen a use for yet and wish you had not wasted cash on? Money isn't a big concern of mine, but if the spell is useless, I'd rather not pick it up. :)
Oh! One last thing. Any equipment in particular that I should start looking to pick up? The only +MDN and +INT equipment I have on now is the Justice Badge and 2 +2INT rings (Eramite? or something).
Thanks much for any help you can give me. :)

En-spells are sold in the advanced magic shop (in Windurst Waters) when Windurst is in first place.

enspells and most of the II spells are sold in selbinia as well, must haves for redmages include, regen, gravity, cures, dispell, and then refresh, if u sub blm nukes, if you sub white status cures and ra spells, ....... accuallylooking at my list i decided there really isn't any spells redmages shouldn't buy, except maybe the enspells and blazespikes (quest blazespikes) enspells are fairly worhtless in groups (and i know i'm gonna here it on this) but are nice for soloing, as is blazespikes,

The self only Bar-spells we get aren't exactly critical, though having 3 of the Bar-element spells is nice to build Enhancing skill. You should probably get Enthunder as soon as possible, but you can wait on the other other En-spells until you have some spare gil to throw around.

well i've accumulated a small fortune on my way to 50, but i'm still a penny pincher, if i don't need it, i'm not going to buy it. :)
should have checked that magic shop in windy earlier, never knew being in first place effected what it sold.
thanks for the heads up guys! :)

BARSleep is an awesome barspell. Later on barspells really help against area damage since RDM has a higher enhancment skill than WHM and is normally leveled higher than WHM (Refresh, Haste, ect force this skill up).

Where to buy all spells or what quests. (http://twpa.net/ffxi/spells/index.php)
^^Just click the job, then the spell spell name to find where/how it can be gained, under what conditions, and approximate cost without fame.

Very nice link, Rones.
Make sure you check AH prices too. If you buy Dispel from the Rabao vender, you're probably spending more on it (almost double) than if you just bought from the AH.

Here (http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/spell/000spell.htm) is another good list. It tells you exactly where you can get each scroll.
Generally, for NPC venders, there are 2 stores for each country. Port Windurst, Port San d'Oria, and Bastok Market are the lower level scroll shops. The Federal Reserve in Windurst Waters (south) and Selbina (for both San d'Oria and Bastok) are the higher level stores.
The scrolls availible for these stores are related to conquest results. The nation in first place will have all the scrolls. The nation in second will have almost all the scrolls, but the nation in third place will be just sad. Also don't forget that the store prices is reduces by fame. So you will likely get a better deal at your native country, where you should have more fame.

that is completely untrue. dispel is not a dropped spell, so you can only buy it from vendors. with maxed fame, dispel in rabao for me is 63k. at jeuno AH, it sells for about 70-75k. only an idiot would buy dispel from a vender and then sell it for half price at the AH. for some weird reason though, dispel is quite a bit more expensive in windurst than it is in rabao...
My suggestion is to skip on the bar- spells, get 1-3 en- spells and save for both dispel (needed) and phalenx (nice to have) unless you have a lot of money. I bought dispel from rabao for about 69k (my fame sucks  ) and phalenx is 120k on my server.

out of curiosity, what's a decent way to build up rabao fame? my servers AH has dispell for like 70k. :\

Rabao I believe is based either on Selbina fame (which is an average of Bastok and San o'Dria fame) or just Bastok fame. Either way, you can boost it by doing the "Only The Best" quest in Selbina. You can use La Theine Cabbage, Millicorn or Boyadha Moss for the quest. I used Boyadha moss... he pays 600 gil for each clump of moss. You usually can't buy moss in stacks for cheaper than 8,000 gil or so (which would be a 800 gil loss per stack), but you can often buy it for 500-600 per clump if you buy them in singles, and turn a profit or break even.

that is the best quest to raise selbina fame as well as san d'oria, bastok, and rabao fame. if you have a lot of money to start out with, say 50k, buy as many stacks of moss as you can (7k per on my server). go to selbina, trade them all in, then do it again...a few runs should get your fame maxed. i did this quest except i didn't have 50k to start so i bought hundreds of cabbages (21-24g each) for each trip. 5 cabbages = 1 quest. anyway, with about rank 3 fame before starting in san d'oria, it took me 5 runs at 405 cabbages, 81 quests repeated, per run to max it out. obviously much easier w/ boyahda moss ^_^;;
