I live in tampa i have road runner cable conn. and appt w/ road runner my buddy says u have to have a router to play ffxi on ps2 bc the router pulls the isp address that the ps2 cant?i have long since bought a router i am not sure if this is true with all road runner or just brighthouse networks here in tampa any one know ? i am prepaired i hope eveyone else is that would suck to buy the game and not be able to play bc your ps2 cant start it ???? :p

That's probably true if your cable company requires you to set up a PPPoE connection in your router or PC for connecting to the Internet. Home DSL/cable routers are cheap these days and most support PPPoE. Just pick one up. Linksys is a good brand for home networking. Besides, you'll need the router anyway if you still want to have access from your home computer while having your PS2 also connected.

you do not need a router to play ps2 online all u need is a network adaptor and a network cable. Im am very sure that the network sets up some sort of stuff but i play socom and i dont have a router

I live in Tampa, I have Road Runner and I didn't need a Router for Everquest, Madden, NBA Live, etc on my PS2. I recently bought a computer for my room though, I have a router. But I didn't have one before and everything was fine.
