Character Selection Gone?

Hope somone can help me with this....

I started playing a few days ago and managed to create my 1st character with no probs at all, hume women looking hot, tarus falling over etc etc.

Today i but a 2nd ID as my bank is a bit full so im going to use another Characer as a bank, but when i go to Create Character now i just get a black screen....

By going into FFXI Options and turning off Animated Char Selection i can now select characters but why cant i use animated anymore?

Anyone else had this problem and if so how do i fix it? Really want to have animated char selection back :(

You need to buy a second content ID before your able to make a second character. This applies for any after that as well.

I have 2nd content ID thats not the problem, the problem is i hear the music for the char selection but the screen just stays black.

Ok Read through it to fast the first time was thinking you didn't have the create character option. My bad. now as for the animated character setting getting a black screen I am not sure what that might be. If it worked the first time I figure it would work for the rest Could be a number of things like video card going bad. or need to reseat the card. or not enough ram for the card. not sure what you have.

I got a lot of blank black screens and no music when I was behind a firewall. It happened mostly right after selecting my character and starting the game. If I'd alt-tab out of the game and go back in, it would be fine (I'd have to wait for my character's connection to time out and disconnect first). Without the firewall enabled, the game would work fine every time.

Check your firewall settings before you go tearing apart your computer or screwing with video cards and drivers.

Firewall is diabled on router and in Windows, could it be anything to do with DirectX?

Think im on 9.0b atm
