must contact a gm
then show real life proof that you are married to the person you wish to marry in game

There is actually an NPC near Bastok ports (close to the gusta gate) that looks kinda GMish when you talk to them it says something about weddings... But if your not JP I wouldn't worry about it just yet as its not supported in the NA version (unless they added that this past update I haven't been paying much attention to their updates lately)

Actually...I think this requirement won't be part of the NA release.
Ok...been doing research best I can and here's what I've come up with.
May 2002--As special promotion SE allows already married couples to get married in-game. Have to contact gm. All they get is a ring.
2002-2003--Service remains popular so that se keeps it
October 2003--NA launch. I first hear about the weddings a month after. Pretty much hear the above.
December/January...here from some who talked to a gm...that yes, there were Japanese weddings but he wasn't sure anymore because se is redoing whole system and will be new system in place for Jp and na players eventually...
February...new update has wedding gear and mentions that weddings are coming soon. Then another teaser update that the wedding outfitter modiste sighted. Finally npc's appear that seem to have something to do with weddings. My bf talked to one in Jueno and someone just said the found one in bastok. When I get home tonight, I'm going to check around Sand'Oria.
above is all fact, below is pure speculation.
With all the new gear and the npc's, this leads me to believe that square is changing the wedding system and opening it up to anyone in game. I have no real way of confirming this but that's what it seems to be pointing to. Otherwise, why go to all the trouble when you could just offer the same existing service as is to na married players.
As to what you get, rumor abound:
wedding gear (lvl 20 version of opaline gear)
rings (no stats and you can't take them off)
shared mog house (with storage 100)
shared gil account
big ceremony performed by gm
Same with what's required:
must be lvl 20 (lvl 30/lvl 40)
characters cannot be same sex (galkas count as male)
cost somewhere between 6000-40,000 gil
must be married in rl
must be at least 18
Anyways...yeah I'm really excited about this...it sounds like fun and I would really like to do with my rl bf.
As to when this will happen I'm guessing June as that is a traditional month for weddings in the us.

I think it will be scary letting the wives have access to the money ^^...

 What? Afraid we might go on big shopping spree? I mean after all you can never have enough opal earrings...and some of the armor is just so cute, have to have several different types to wear depending on my mood...hehe..
Think in a way it would be good though...will keep people from just getting married as something to do...requires a real in-game commitment but nothing that could affect in you in rl...

My wife is getting the PS2 version when it comes out so I'd really like to do this marriage thing. Unless there's some major drawback to it, I'm all for getting married again. ^^
Besides, I'm Elvaan and I think she's going for Taru...that would look hilarious!

You have to be married in real life? How gay. It would be cool if you could get married in-game without being married in rl.

I don't like the idea about having to be married in real life...
What about the people who don't believe in marriage? Or people who have been with the same person for 2+ years (this applies to me)? ><

So, do you have to be married in real life to get married in the game? Is there an age requirement for it? 'Cause I know a lot of people who'll be disappointed if there is (I know I will :dead: )

just seems fitting

Well, like I said in my first post, all those requirements are rumor right now. SE hasn't made any offical announcement.
And actually, all my information about the jp weddings is second hand so it could be innaccurate as well.
I really don't think this service will require you to married in rl. SE seems to be expanding it and I think they would not go to the trouble of doing so if only a few couples could use it. I mean I'm a bit biased as I want to marry someone in game who I'm not married to in rl, so I of course I'm really not hoping that is the case.
As for age requirement...that remains more of possbility...after all they probably don't want 13 year olds going around and getting married.

Um, for information. I met a taru girl in Jeuno who was wearing the wedding gear, she was married (she could take the ring off) and she was NOT married in real life.
Just some information to pass on.. ^.^
No shared mog house...
No shared gil...
:)
Edit: The name of the person you marry appears on the ring's description on the bottom right corner under "Rare Ex".

Yeah...at this point I've heard pretty much the same thing--like I said in my orginal post, it was all rumor at the time. Was she Japanese?...because I still haven't heard about weddings in the na release yet.
Also, was reading a magazine and it said that there might be quest you have to do. But then the person who wrote the article could be wrong.
Huli (who really wants to be married in game).

I just hope the wedding gear doesn't look like the Opaline dress I'm going to be paying 300k for. That'd really make me mad. ><

acualy....
then she was not married......
the ring can not be removed, it is locked down by a GM
and yes you HAVE to be married in real life to your ingame hubby.

Why cant u remove the ring? does it give you atrabutes? also does it give u a third ring slot cuz if not thats bullshit it takes up another damn slot up...

I don't see why it's so bad that you can't remove the ring. When you get married in real life do you get an extra finger?

Hello all. Well I read all the above, and I want to also get married in the game to my lovely hume, Aretumis. But we have to be married IRL? WTH? How would they even know to tell the difference? Oh and on the ring factor and not being able to take it off. I don't mind at all, that shows that you are trully devoted to that person in game. I like the whole thought even if that ring gives you no attributes. So how "true" is the statement said about being married IRL? What if you and your hubby only have one computer anyhow. You both can't be on at the same time, so what's the use? I hope that factor is not true, it seems though as if it keeps getting tossed around as true and false....:spin:

No...you do not. At this point there are plenty of reliable sources that say you don't. The ring is removable. And you don't get things like a shared moghouse or gil account. So far all the articles in all the magazines I've seen make no mention of having to be married in rl.

I also read in a Magazine that you dont have to be married in Real life and that it the quest is out for the NA realese and that the ring is removeable in NO EXTRA inything at all!!

 Ok so now that the sources have come through many magazines and what not... Yay! I'm excited now for this to come out, and <congradualtions> to all those others out there getting married in the game. :) As for being able to take the ring off... I'd still keep it on, it shows devotion to that significant other. (unless we are fighting...LOL... j/k)

I don't know about all of that. I posted screenshots of the Wedding Support area of the JP POL Viewer and the application (as much as I could access...). JonnyRam came in and said that you have to be married in real life and submit proof of it to Square Enix to be able to successfully apply for the event. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about as:
1) He's a moderator on this board.
2) He lives in Japan and is fluent in Japanese and English.
3) He's been playing the game from theJapanese launch and has provided accurate/reliable information consistently the entire time.

^^^ What he said
I already talked to a gm and the gm said marriege is coming out for NA(we know this) and you may not have to be married in real life. My next question for him thanks to gamefaqs(the pc ff11 social board had a same sex topic that turned into one heck of a flame war) will be if people of the same sex can get married. I dont really know why they would forbid this, especially in a game for crying out loud.
Dazraz
05-27-2004, 03:23 PM
oh, thank you for that Zelld, but I dont care. You can read cant you, or can't you be be arsed to work out, 2 = to/too?
I hope you can read this.
but as 4 the gay weddings, i fink they will let is happen, not as if ne1 is gonna get pee'd of at see'n 2 galka's walking around claiming there married, it will make most ppl laugh.
