i just hit lvl 12 with my blm and i was wondering about drain... first, is it worth getting (on my server 17,000 on market)? and second, is there any place i can find drain off a monster or a store i can purchase for like 10,000 (all i got)?

No shops sell it, and no mobs drop it. Is it worth getting? Hmm, probably not at lvl 12. To be honest, I still havn't gotten it at lvl 38, which is kinda sad :(

It's mostly useful for Drk's, but for that occasional hit you may recieve, it could be nice to have. I imagine it MB's off of dark SC's, so it would be good for that too, and also for the fact that it actually does nice damage. If you cast it when you have full hp, it will say drained for 0, but it still does the damage... So I hear.

But one other thing, casting it raises your dark skill... And since RDM get ansy when you cast Bio, it's a good alternative. You basically want your dark to be high for spells like sleep, and aspir. Aspir can be quested for in Windurst, and is well worth it.

Do the Quest in San d'Oria -- the quest giver is in the prison (can't remember name, sry) beneath Cheateau d'Oragille (San d'orian Castle) ... YOu need fame to attain the quest though, but no worries ...

You say you have 10k ... Hmmm, buy 5 stacks of Rabbit Hides at San AH, trade them to Parvipon (Trade 3 at a time, and get 120 Gil in reward ... Actually almost pays back what you spend buying the Rabbit Hides lol)

Then go to the prison, and talk to the "vampire" ^^ ... Buy the item he asks for (Bought it for 1k on FAiry server ... Should be around there) at the AH, and Drain is yours !

Also, I hear you need to be on mission 6 for your country to get into the area you get the quest.. Or atleast have finished it. Not sure if this applies to those who are from San D'oria.

i prefer thebatwing quest 6 turn ins per stack, instead of 4, and 200 gil instead of 120

The Selbina sheep-feed quest is the best way to gain fame in San d'Oria.

Wait until San d'Oria is #1 in conquest, and then go to the grocery. Buy up tons of Latheine cabbage, take it to Selbina, and give it allllllllllllllll to the guy outside the weaver's guild shop, in lots of 5. You'll lose a tiny bit of money, but you'll gain a whole lot of fame in San d'Oria, Bastok, Selbina, and I think Rabao and Jeuno(seems to work for me anyway, but I'm San d'Orian. Might work differently for people of other nations?).

As far as Drain is concerned, GET IT NOW. It is a magnificent spell, and it is very, very efficient in terms of the damage it can do. It can be useful even when you are at full HP. It'll do its full damage regardless of your health level. You just won't see how much damage it does in raw numbers. After I got my dark skill up around 60-80 or so, I started using it as a nuke in my regular rotation of nukes. I could only use it once every minute or so, but man, was it efficient! I could do more damage with it than I could Thunder by level 37, and Drain only costs 21 mana! I've heard reports of higher level BLM hitting for over 200 with Drain. Who wouldn't want to do 200 damage with just 21 mana?

dmg done not = life drained
u can drain 0HP but deal quite alot of damage for 21MP..
