I'm currently a 29MNK/12WARt has finally come to the point where I need to decide beween becoming either:
a) high level monk
b) dark knight

I've been reading the various posts about the plusses of monks and darks, but just need some fresh input.

Should I stick with what works, stay a monk, and risk begging for parties as I level up? Or should I go through the trouble of levelling yet another character to become a respectable drk?

Any thoughts?

you should level your sub....

and btw i'm not going to answer that question you should try them both and decide which you like more

he he he...

Well, I am in the same boat as you are keoni004. I have gotten my Monk to lvl 30 (WAR 15!), and now I can't decide what I want to do... Monk or Dark...

I little history: I wanted to be Dark when I first started. But not any kind of Dark; I wanted to be a Dark MONK (ie: A Dark that uses his fists!). Now that I am more knowledgable of the game mechanics, I am not going that route. It is either one or the other.

More history: I HATE using weapons, and I LOVE H2H! That was the 100% truth when I started playing as a Monk. Now that I lvled my WAR to lvl 15, I am ok with weapons but not loving it.

Why not stick with Monk? Because I wanted to do some magic as well... it can get a bit on the "boring" (for lack of a better word) to do repetitive punching and almost nothing more... the DRK has a few spells up his sleeve at least the can potentialy change the patern every now and then...

Why not do DRK? I don't like weapons as much as I like H2H...

So you know what I am doing? I am walking around the worlds and just getting all the adv. job quests done... at least until I find the oracle that will point me to the correct path...

Thanks for the input fellas. As cool as it would be to d'm not reallly too thrilled with the prospect of doing magic, so maybe it'll all work out for the best. I've finally upped all my +attack and +str gear, and I'm finally happy with the damage I'm able to throw around. Besides...leveling sucks! :)

1 thing dude... a mnk with bad gear = junk...
mnk with under-lvled sub = junk...

there actually higher maintanance especially 40+ than most ppl think as you gotta spend a lot of gil on equipment to keep your dmg good

No he is saying to make sure that your subjob is leveled to at least half the level of your main job (I recomend leveling it more then that so you don't have to do it later for instance if you want to go mnk/war I suggest leveling war to 30 at least, this way you won't get behind all your friends because you have to level your subjob).

And he is also saying to equip good stuff. But this is pretty obvious as it goes for any job. Simply put bad equipment = bad player. So please take the time to get good equip.

On the note of DRK vs. MNK I agree try them both out. But do not base it on who you think does more damage, alot of people who just do not know any better would say DRK outdamages MNK by alot. This couldn't be further from the truth. I find myself doing the most damage per fight in nearly all the parties I am in.

Note: My linkshell is planning on doing a BCNM 40 soon in which I plan on conducting a test of who does the most damage per round. (IE: the paladin uses Invincible, then the DRK uses soul eater/berserk/last resort, I use focus/berserk/Hundred fists, the BLM uses manafont + chaincast (EDIT: I did not mean chaincast I meant he has RDM sub so he has the fast cast passive ability sorry for the confusion) (rdm sub), the RNG uses his 2 hour and barrage) I personally have doubts that the monster will last long enough...but I hear they have alot of HP so I am hoping that they have ALOT of HP.

My Gear:
Jujitsu Gi
Ochiodo's Kote (sp?)
Mythril Knuckles + 1 (Because claws are 41 so I cant use them)
Fuma Kyhan (sp?)
Emperor's Hairpin
Spike Knecklace
Nomad's Mantle
Brown Belt
Jujitsu Sitabaki
2 beetle +1 earings
2 sniper rings (or for when I am not missing 2 puissance rings)

The DRK's gear
Royal Squires Chainmail
Hume RSE gloves
Mythril Scythe
Leaping Boots
Emp hairpin
Spike Necklace
Merc Captians belt
Royal Squire's Breeches
2 beetle +1 earings
2 Sniper Rings

The ranger has alot of my old gear basically +1 crap its good stuff and she shoots good arrows.

The BLM has all their spells and some funny looking cloak.

Who will win? Place your bets now.

I don't know.......I played ranger before and sure the numbers are great. But can it compare to a hundred fists of fury lol

most he does per shot is 120-140

most I do per fist is about 65 sometimes 70 (that is with berserk).

Pluse the WHM will be hasting us all which is pretty useless on a ranger (when I was ranger I did not notice any difference in delay with ranged weapons). I don't think anyone will win hands down.

MNK's at the end will do more dmg than a DRK. Ashuran Fists is the only proof you need to know.

That is not to say that a DRK isn't powerful. It's just hard to say, go with your gut
