RDM AF coffer 3 (Warlock's Tabard) Woes..

After my second keyhunt in Castle Oztraja for this blasted key, i'm at my wits end. I've spent a total of 7 hours on the staircase killing Yagudo Assasins, Prelates, Conductors and Flagellants and none have dropped a single key. We've had all kinds of drops from level 70+ BRD songs to ancient magic scrolls - but no key.

To add insult to injury, my last trip, the freakin' coffer was sitting ON the stairway while we killed mobs for key - only to have it snatched by a high level THF 2 hours into the trip. Mind you my LS DRK needed one too, but not a single one fell.

Is it just me, or is this key drop bugged, or am I just phenominally unlucky? The fact that these mobs rate Tough and Very Tough, and are a total PIA to kill with a single PT levels 58-60.

Should I keep up the effort or just screw it and get myself a carapace breastplate at level 61. Even papyrus for Genkai I wasn't this aggravating. Any advice or reassurance would help as i'm beyond annoyed at this bloody coffer quest.

Took me 2 days, 9 hours to get 1 key drop... hang in there, it will drop eventually... :(

Well, at least you've gone key hunting? :) I've been bugging all my friends for a week now to go oz keyhunting. The closest we got I had an rdm (me) whm brd and thf, lvls 58-74, but no tank, even with /sh in Jeuno, so after about an hour everyone went off to do other stuff :rolleyes:

You shouldn't have a hard time getting a group together for key hunting in Oz. There are many inscentives including:

Stealing Gold Beastcoins from Conductors
Obtaining a dropped Minuet4 (100k on my server)
Great skillup opportunities
Obtaining Carnage Elegy (70k on my server)
And various other frequently dropped 2k items
Various seals, kindred and beast

Just advertise some of these, and you should be able to grab a nice party together rather quickly. And don't forget to bring your thf sub!

I found coffer key to drop easier on the upper floor (around monk's AF3 NM) Whenever I drop down to high priest spot I rarely see any coffer key at all.

Wow I guess I must have gotten very lucky when getting my key, it took about 2-3 hours for it to drop. My ls was also willing to help me get the key for the brd scrolls and gold beast coins. ;) The area I got the key from was around the 4th floor of the castle i think where there are 3 possible coffer pops. We camped right infront of a brass door.

That's where we've been hunting, pulling mobs from the room with the final brass door (right before the High Priest pitfall). The droprates on items in general have been pretty strange since the patch IMO. Anyone else notice any strange drop frequencies when farming/hunting?

I joined a Oz key group for 2 hours one day, got 3 keys in an hour and a half before the group broke up (only 2 actually needed, the last the whm took for his brd's af that he was gonna do eventually). Its pretty random. I had bad luck camping a Kuftal key, only ever saw 1 drop in a group there then spent 4 hours camping one at 60. All keys are like that really.

I never found the monsters really annoying to kill at all really. Kind of wish I had exped there in a level up party because the loot is decent and they aren't really that hard. Good luck with a coffer though =/

Took me about 5 hours for my key. Now as for finding a coffer good luck. Make a key macro and either run around or camp a spawn for a day.

Mmmmm well I got mine rather effortlessly.

2 of us needed the key, and we got both in 15minutes. Stayed longer to kill stuff for fun though. Took me about 3 hours to find my coffer, even with 3-4 other thf's running around (actually I found one in the leech pond about an hour after looking, but I hesitated and ran to a corner to sneak/invis, and in that time some other thf named Arden ran by and got it -_-).

In my opinion, camping a spot sucks. Oz is easy because layering invis on yourself is effortless and unless you seriously fuck things up you shouldn't get aggro at all.

Sorry you've been having problems with that coffer key. We went there for Bard, Thf, and two rdm's keys. Went in a small alliance and teamed with "The Big Poppa Bear" Matteo and plowed through the upper tier yagudos. Took about 50 minutes per key. If you and when you get the key go in there solo and light the torch system to open the door to genkei3, a Coffer spawns there behind the statue. TAB around every so often because you can highlight thing outside the room. I was in there for about an hour and the coffer appeared in the torch room in the NW (great screenshot of me pulling the Warlock Tabard while being flanked two feet on either side by level 68 yagudos.

Keep at it. It took me 40 hours to get a Coffer Key for Eldemine Necropolis and Garlange Citadel dropped like rain, 7 keys in two hours.

Don't forget you can tank yourself pretty well. Especially with the combination you mention!

Cast blink, stoneskin and phalanx on yourself (and refresh of course!), maybe use seal + lv2 magic to keep the mob on you for a while, have the thf use you for trick attack, bard can use acc. and ballad, whm can cure you when you need it. Just make sure you keep blink, stoneskin and phalanx on. It will take ages for each fight, though :sweat:

Mind you, you've got the key now, so you don't need to worry. My main concern for this AF is getting the coffer, not the key.

It took me a while to get mine .. me and a BRD friend needed it, first time we went none dropped in 5 hours of killing. Second time, one dropped in 3 hours which BRD got. Third, we got one in about an hour. I figured that since Oz was so crowded with THFs at the time, that I wouldn't have a chance to get coffer yet. But to my surprise the coffer had spawned on the staircase behind us no earlier than 5 minutes before the key dropped. Talk about luck!

Wow, what a day for me! Finished Genkai 3 solo and got Castle Oztraja coffer key on second kill today! Wahoo! I can die a happy RDM.

We also killed the RDM AF hat NM in Fey'in on Sunday and doing my the last one this weekend.

It took me ~2 hours to get my Coffer key then I didnt bother looking for coffer that night (were about 10+ Thiefs Swarming Oztroja). So I came back next afternoon and uhh. The First Coffer Spawn Location I checked (Center of Pool on Second Floor) hi Coffer hi Tabard. Luckly I was high enough so the leechs didnt aggro when sneak fell tehehe.

But ive heard other horror stories from people in my LS. One person just saw at one location for 5 hours and waited for the coffer to spawn there.

Well, I can certainly say hunting this coffer is a total pain in the ass. Its hard to compete with 5-10 level 70+ THFs who will not only ignore your tells for assistance, but use Flee to get to every pop spot there is.

Its bad enough getting the key, now I have to compete with others who just need to pick it? Square Enix really needs to re-evaluate AF coffers. Looks like i'll be spending more quality time in Oztraja.... god I hate that !$^@#$@* place.

My suggestion sent to SE is to put AF coffers like RSE. 5min pop after someone opens for AF component.

Last night I finally got another mini alliance together to take down the yags for the coffer key... 4 of us needed the key and after 3 hours one finally dropped. Luckily i won the lot and then the 2 high lvl Drks had to go thus ending the alliance.

Then i spent 20 mins running around oztroja searching for my coffer... and luckily I got it ^^ thf right on my ass trying to beat me but i was opening it time he got to it. So now i got my Tabard... now I need the lvl to wear it ><

I always get my AF one or two levels before I can wear it that way it makes me want to level even harder. I'm already involved in a RDM AF3 alliance to take down the garlaige NM this weekend ^^; (Killed Miser Murphy when I was 55).

Well, I logged in this morning by the brass statue, and lo and behold, there's a Taru THF standing right next to me. As I rotate the camera, the coffer spawns - The THF lunges for it but I have it targeted.. I hit my key macro... I win.

While we talking about the castle, anyone know how to get to the 2 coffers off the map by the stairs leading to the parasites? is there a secret door somewhere?

Ugh... don't the high level Theives have anything better to do? Honestly, why become a high level THF? To run around an area taking terasures from those who need them for quests? There MUST be something more constructive for them to do... can't wait for Dynamis...maybe, just maybe it will get some of them out of our hair.

Well, wishful thinking. From what I've heard, Dynamis is absolutely insane and almost nobody (at least on my server) ventures there anymore after the initial ass-kicking they received. I smell patch-fix in the wind.

Also, as long as folks are still willing to pay hundreds of thousands of gil for Astral Rings etc. THFs will continue to haunt these places. That's pretty much the driving force for people to level THF is to treasure hunt, and often at the expense of other players AF.

Honestly, what they *should* do is put AF gear into special chests that require a quest key and are unpickable. I was always kind of miffed that THFs could easily do all of their coffer AFs by simply finding the chests and picking them, while the rest of us have to camp keys for hours on end. I'd rather try fighting a NM or going on a fetchquest than killing mobs for days for a key to a chest I have to compete with greedy players for hours on end to open.

Just think... we have to do it allll over again for our second suit of Artifact Armor. /groan

On my server, there are always 5 person in the AH history of Astral ring. As I expected when I went in Oztroja for my coffer those 5 were there. This is at 4AM in JPN time. 2 of them lives with RMT (real money trade) so actually we can call its their RL INCOME. Sad but MMORPG this is not rare.

Ok my Keying experience. We went to the 3rd floor where 2 coffers spawns + the secret word room (whatever you call that room). I did a 3 hour tour and limited the key lotter to 3. I got 2 full parties (thanks to my rdm friend), and we went to this room killing assasins and high lvl yagudos (lvl 63~72 range). Ended up dropping 3 keys in 3 hours. Its been lucky I guess, but we were emptying the entire room so I guess the amount of mobs killed did the trick.

On to the coffer. I did the same day, at 58. Before reaching the coffer spawn area there are 4 levers you have to push. Bad luck is there are 2 Easy con Yagudos near those levers. I ended up recruiting one of my friend to take them down. The hardest part is actually that. THen you can simply run around with invis. There are usually invised thf/whm around in here so my tip is as follows:

1. Put your search comment, Looking for AF coffer. Don't plead, this gives negative info. Also state that you will leave as soon as you get yours.

2. Print out the map in oztroja coffer location before attempting.

3. (optional) bring a friend and situate him in the keyword room. This is the only place you can't look alone. Takes too much time.

4. NEVER stay in one spot. Keep running and look for it. The spawn time is from 20~40min randome time. And also some thieves helps with AF, but only if you are giving the effort of trying to find the coffer. I received 2 of the 5 thieves willing to help. I asked why? They stated I am doing my share of effort in finding the coffer (indeed... been running around for 2 hours), they simply hate lazy beggers. Trust me, not all thieves are greedy bastard.

5. Always have these 2 macros:
1. Quick escape
/ja Chainspell <me>
/ma Warp <me>

2. Rapid key use macro
/item (name of the Oztroja cofferkey) <t>

These 2 is a must. Specially the key one. I had 3 thieves chasing me all the time.(2 willing to help me) I found the coffer in the secret word room, 3 of them were already there. I dropped my invis off and spamed my key macro. I won, despite those 2 thieves were already there. Make sure, MAKE SURE you test it before. Try hitting the macro against a mob. If done correctly, you will receive an error followed by target is too far away.

Hope this helps, and for the poster stating about thieves have nothing else to do. Well the developers has implemented a very high value item in the wrong coffer for starters :sweat: . Since all high level gears and stat boost gears are insanely high, 170k a pop astral ring which doesn't have the rare tag is a very very high income. (VERY STUPID, they SHOULD put ATLEAST a RARE tag...) Its not only in Oztroja, in Ordelles, Bedeauex(sp?) also have high amount thieves. Due to the still-unstable-economy in this game(compared to EQ) it probably won't change for quite some time.

The Relic Armor (2nd set) is dropped, not quested^^ so a big yay to that :P

Maybe some real Need Before Greed for once eh?

Yes our Relic is drops in Dynamis so we don't need to do coffers anymore, just get ripped up by the bosses in Dynamis.
