Okay, so here's my story. When I first got FFXI, it was running smoothly. Then after a few months, I would CTD or reboot once in a while. And from there it progressively got worse to the point where I could crash within 10-15 min just being in lower jeuno. So I first tried reinstalling FFXI and that didn't work. So the next thing I tried was first turning off my computer (OMG) and then cleaning out my graphics card fan, heat sink, power supply fans, and the various other computer fans with a dust blower. When I took out my video card, the fan was just covered with dust. So hopefully this has solved the problem. At the moment, I am just sitting in front of the lower jeuno AH and seeing if I will crash, and nothing has happened yet. So I hope this works for anyone else that's having problems...

So before going out and buying a new graphics card, clean out your computer fans.

Update: After cleaning out my fans and playing all day, I have not crashed ONCE (thank god!) So check your fans!

Yes, clogged fans will eventually kill your computer, in a sense.

Most new processors will slow themselves down if they get too hot, at least most of the pentiums I have seen.

On the other side of that, AMDs will fry themselves because they don't reduce the framerate when they get hot and consequently they die.

I just recently cleaned mine because going to the store to get some $4 air-in-a-can was just too much of a hassle
After about a year of letting it collect dust, I would suggest a hazmat suit or something to that effect.
Ick.
