Hello. I've just started playing FFXI not very long ago, and I have to admit, I'm having a horribly rough time. I have a level 7 Mithra THF at the moment, and I find that levelling is incredibly tough. I'm currently located around Windurst, because that's where all my friends were. I've trie d a few quests and missions and such, but I keep dying on only the second mission, and sometimes just wandering around the worldmap. I often get poisoned in a battle, then lose about 80-90 HP or so to it, then DIE. This is getting very frustrating. On top of that, I really can't stand the aggressive monsters. I know I'm about to die, so I try to run away, but apparently there's no running from any monsters whatsoever (how do they expect you NOT to die??). Anyway, I've almost made it to level 8, but I now stand with a lowly 400 experience due to constant dying. It's very rough to stay alive, and also to make money and buy new equipment. So far, my experience in playing what I thought would be the coolest MMORPG of all time, has been nothing but an annoying task. Can anyone help me out? I would really appreciate it; Thanks.

So first - THF is harder to lvl then any other class beside white mage. I hope you desided for a sword an shild and not Dagger.
If you get poisoned in battle, avoid crawlers. Then you will not be poisoned. Dont fight decent monsters, mass kill easy once. Dont forget to get a signet at the guards and farm some fire crystals from easy mobs. Its very good money and still some exp. One or 2 stacks fire crystals should be enough money for your equipment up to lvl 11.
Hi.
You just need to stick it out and pick on slightly weaker monsters for a while. Once you get to lvl 10 you will be too strong for the monsters just outside Windy and will have to progress into team playing and other areas.
But for now you could try.....
1) Selling stacks of 12 of Wild Onions, Yagudo Feathers and Crystal at the Auction House for a nice bit of cash.
2) Goblim Helm, Goblin Mask, Yagudo Neclase etc etc etc can also be sold at the Auction House for a tidy sum of cash.
3) If you do get 12 Silk Threads then you can sell them at the Auction House for a wooping 10-12K Gil. :)
Moving away from the Auction House and into Quests (not Missions)
1) You might want to head to the Austary in Windurst Walls (where basic magic classes are held) and speak to the tarutaru in the building on the right. You can do a Quest where you need 1*2leaf Mandragora Bud and a 1*Bird Feather (not Yagudo) for 250 Gil.
2) Also if you collect 3 Crawler Calculuses you can take them to the Mithra in Windurst Woods by the Dhamels for 600 Gil.
And finally Missions.
1) Don't bother doing missions on your own once you have done the first one. Once you have done the first you might want to gain a few more levels and when you make some friends then get them to join you on a team outing. As a THF you are not very good at attacking yet and will probably die in a horrible and EXP costly manner at lvl 7.

First, don't fight stuff that poisons without a wmm with you to cure it.
If thief is a bit hard for you right now just play another job up to 18 and try thf again with a sub.
I only leveled my thf up to 15 so far for TH, but subbed mnk and used hth. It went pretty quickly.
