new to ffxi, questions on rangers...

i am new to ffxi (as title states) and i love rangers in every other game i have ever played, so i want to do it in this game, but i have a few questions:

1) i read that you need to be lvl 30+ to get ranger, what would be a good class to start with for those first 30 levels until i can get the ranger class?

2) i am really new, what is farming and how do i do it? :)

3) are the mithra a good ranger race?

4) is woodcrafting worth it for making arrows?

1) This is what I would do, lvl warrior to 18, THF to 15, warrior or thief to 30 (depending on your preference) and select your subjob from there. Either way youve got 2 good subjobs and 1 good farmer ^^.

2) Well basically you run around killing monsters that are simple to defeat, for the gil / items that they drop. THF is the best sub for Farming, period.

3) Mithra are the best rangers statistically speaking, but by saying so im going to get flamed, but, whatever.

4) Ive heard that realistically it isnt REALLY that viable, but hey, dont quote me on that.

Ok, Mithra are the best rangers in terms of accuracy. That's all =P

Anyway, moving on. . .

Thf is not a good sub for ranger =P

I recommend raising warrior to 30, thf to 15 for Treasure Hunter, then from there get ninja and samurai for subs, and ranger for main.

does it matter if i go thief first to 15 then warrior to 30?

THF is very hard to lvl to 18 (when you get the subjob quest) so id start with Warrior.

THF is probley a crap subjob now that I think about it, but its good for farming, so its all good.
