I am a player of EQOA and it is a good game but some things in it piss me off. Just wanted to know is any of thes problems where in FFXI
1. I hate how in EQOA if you are a noob and mess up your stats you have to Delete that character and make a new one
2. if you play Ranger your Bow is useless and you have to buy arrows
3. The doors in most towns are small so it some one is standing there you can't get in or out
4. With TradeSkill (making weapons, Armor, Etc.) you fail at it 50% of the time and end up losing allot of money until you get to the height Lv.s
5. Fishing has no point nobody fishes in EQOA because the spend twice as much money to get the stuff then just going to a store and buying it
And 1 thing I have nosiest from watching the FFXI Live Cam the towns are empty. are the towns usually like that and how hard is it to get into a group?
Sorry for the Noob Questions I am pre-ordering my copy in the next few day and would just like to Know this stuff

I use to play EQOA as well, but now that FFXI is coming out for the PS2, i bagged EQOA and started savin up for FFXI. Now that I have the money I've been doing some hardcore comparisons.
I may not know all the answers, but I do know a few.
1. You can't choose which stats you want to upgrade in FFXI. When you level up, every stat goes up a set amount each level. This way no one can totally screw up their characters.
2. Don't know about the bow, but I do know Ranger is the most expensive class to play, or at least one of them.
3. Haven't played yet, so I can't tell ya:sweat:
4. I hated this very much in EQOA. There are skills in FFXI like crafting, alchemy, and stuff, but I haven't heard on how useful they are in the money to productivity ratio.
5. Fishing is more useful in this game I believe, but I'm not sure.
Your last question, no... the towns are not and will FOR SURE not be like that when the PS2 version comes out. There will be so many new players.
About getting into a party, it all depends on what job/sub you play, and how you play it.
For the questions I didn't know, try talking to some higher levels who already are playing. Hope this helped you out!

1. I hate how in EQOA if you are a noob and mess up your stats you have to Delete that character and make a new one
~Malachi_Gage answered that one!
2. if you play Ranger your Bow is useless and you have to buy arrows
~Rangers (in this game) deal sickening amounts of damage. I has been stated in several sources that a ranger can hit harder in a single hit than any other class in the game. I am not sure on this, but I have played along side several rangers and belive me... they are very usefull...
3. The doors in most towns are small so it some one is standing there you can't get in or out
~You wont have to worry about this, for one doors have to be opened (most of the time) so this prevents people from standing in the doorway. If they still choose, and you try to walk past them, the game will "clip" you through them as to not cause congested areas...
4. With TradeSkill (making weapons, Armor, Etc.) you fail at it 50% of the time and end up losing allot of money until you get to the height Lv.s
~Yeah, it is hard to get started, just like everything worth doing in this game you need patience... As long as you arent trying to make things out of your league when you start crafting (and using the Strategy Guide has an advantage of reciptes to help you get started) you should be fine.
5. Fishing has no point nobody fishes in EQOA because the spend twice as much money to get the stuff then just going to a store and buying it
~It all depends on what you are after, alot of people i know enjoy fishing in this game: 1. you randomly pull monsters! 2. There are several quests that are completeable only through fishing. 3. It is kinda cool... (imo)
And 1 thing I have nosiest from watching the FFXI Live Cam the towns are empty. are the towns usually like that and how hard is it to get into a group?
~Perhaps it is just the lagg, but I spent alot of time in places like San d'Oria when I started out, and there were LOTS of people... If the cam goes through certain areas of towns then yes, there are very few people... However, you should always find a hefty bunch of folks hanging out at the Auction House which is primarily the focal point of each city.
Hope this helps,
~Seraphin

i played EQoA for about a year, and while its a nice MMORPG for a begginer like i myself was, once you start playing FFXI you realize how poorly that game was made, i dont hate it cause i learned alot from it, but its laughable to compare these two games
1. I hate how in EQOA if you are a noob and mess up your stats you have to Delete that character and make a new one
yeah...that blows...FFXI stats are fixed so that you cant gimp yourself just so long as you update your equipment
2. if you play Ranger your Bow is useless and you have to buy arrows
im no ranger, but yeah its an expensive class...but the damage is great from the ones ive grouped with
3. The doors in most towns are small so it some one is standing there you can't get in or out
yeah...EQoA had some pretty infamous door blockers didint it lmao
in FFXI you can walk right through people
4. With TradeSkill (making weapons, Armor, Etc.) you fail at it 50% of the time and end up losing allot of money until you get to the height Lv.s
crafting is pretty much the same here...but fun to do
5. Fishing has no point nobody fishes in EQOA because the spend twice as much money to get the stuff then just going to a store and buying it
youll be fishing your ass of on march 23rd, trust me lmao
And 1 thing I have nosiest from watching the FFXI Live Cam the towns are empty. are the towns usually like that and how hard is it to get into a group?
yeah towns do look empty in the cam...but every single city in FFXI...even small roadside towns are lush with players, unlike EQoA

Thats not possible. You gain stats through items and through lvl. You cant mess your chatacter up. The only thing you can make "wrong" is your subjob. While blackmage or summoner is a very usefull subjob for a white mage, warrior whould be less usefull because you dont get the mana bonus. But thats nothing you cant "repair".
2. if you play Ranger your Bow is useless and you have to buy arrows[/B]
Rangers do insane damage. If you like high dmg numbers be a ranger. You have to pay for arrows as well. Thats the downside of a ranger, its one of the most expansive jobs beside ninja. The rangers i know are always out of money.
3. The doors in most towns are small so it some one is standing there you can't get in or out[/B]
No problem in FF, while there is a collision detection between players you can run through them after you collided one time. So you get slowed a sec and can run through. 20 Galkas in fron of the smith door could be a problem, but never happend until now ^^
4. With TradeSkill (making weapons, Armor, Etc.) you fail at it 50% of the time and end up losing allot of money until you get to the height Lv.s[/B]
Same, its extremely expansive to get in the high crafting skill. But if you craft at the right days (not using fire crystals at ice days for example) you will not fail that much. But nevertheless its extream expanisve. But you can make a little gil at low lvls as well.
5. Fishing has no point nobody fishes in EQOA because the spend twice as much money to get the stuff then just going to a store and buying it[/B]
Personaly i find fishing extremely boring. You wait for bite it return and hope you get a fish, repeat. On the other side some fishes sells very good to the vendor or the community. There are only a couple of fishes you can buy at the vendor so the most fishes are sold to other players via the AH, Moat carps for example for 4k a stack.
And 1 thing I have nosiest from watching the FFXI Live Cam the towns are empty. are the towns usually like that and how hard is it to get into a group?[/B]
Towns are always crowded. I know what you mean, i see the camera as well, but i never ever saw a empty city, ah i lied, one time i was one of the first to login into the sever after patch and there where only 3 people in bastok^^. Normaly there are always everywhere poeple.
To get a group can be very easy or very difficult. My waiting time varies from 5 seconds to 4 hours. Its also depends on your reputation and your job. White mages has it (mostly) a bit easier then warriors or thiefs for example.
But in higher lvles you need to farm some gil anyway. So most people tend to hang around jueno farming while waiting for a group. But it can be very frustrating if you want lvl xy and cant find a group.

Ranger: it's very expensive.
Well i didn't buyed the NM drop bow, because it was toooooooooooo (redicoulus) expensive, i buyed a Power Bow +1 instead ^^
The ammo for ranger is about 400 ~ 2000 (at least until lv25 ^^') for 99bolts/arrows
For the damage, i do normaly on a IT mob 10 ~ 30dmg. Normal melee about 0 ~ 5, but i hit it once out of 5 :(
VT is like 20 ~ 40 hit is 2 ~ 3 out of 5
T is like 25 ~ 60 hit is nearly every single shot.
EV don't know
Dec is like 30 ~ 75 same as T
Easy is like 50 ~80 same as T
not worty is like 60 ~ 250 every shot hits. <<- usefull for farming some gil.
Also a good idea is to raise woodwork skills to create your bows with the base materials. Also nice income on elm-log

I've played EQOA, I havent played FFXI, waiting for PS2. Personally, the only way I can see anybody even tolerating EQOA is if they haven't played any of the good PC mmorpgs. I played that after Camelot, and it was just a waste of time. The towns were all empty, there was no atmosphere, the people were assholes, the game just blew. If it was your first one, I guess you could have enjoyed it. I envy how ecstatic you will be when you first play FFXI after only playing EQOA. Its going to be amazing for me I know, and if EQOA is the best you've played as far as online rpg's, your gonna be blown away by FFXI.
