Here are my best computer's specs:
CPU: 500MHZ
RAM: 256MB
Video Card: 32MB... I think maybe even 64MB. Not sure anymore.
I highly doubt that will cutt it, but have any of you tried it that low? Enough to just get me in-game :p ?

My fiance's laptop has 32 MB of video RAM as well, and she is able to run it. Of course, she also has a MUCH beefier processor than your system.
Video memory makes a lot of difference. I'd bet you can run the game though. Download the benchmark utility from PlayOnline.

Honestly I'll be surprised if you can even get the game loaded, lets not even think about how well it will run.
If you can get it loaded, it'll probably run at an unplayable rate.

Well, Final Fantasy XI requires a 32MB graphics card, 128 MB ram, and a 800Mhz PC. You may be able to play, just REEEAAALLY laggy or slow. Again, use the benchmark utility, as that one guy said earlier.
But, be sure that your graphics card had Hardware TnL on it, or Hardware Transformation and Lighting. That is my downfall!!!
I have a 2.4Ghz PC, 1024MB RAM, and a 64MB Grahphics card, and NO hardware TnL!!! AGH!!! I have to get a whole new Graphics Card....That really bites. x.x
But anyways, that's it. Though I don't actually have the game yet, I might get it this week.....
So I just watch you all for now. T.T

your game WILL Run, but the graphics are going to be horrible and the lag will be so bad that you wont be able to group at all. my friend had this same problem. but he upgraded his ram (512) and video card (64), and now it runs fine.

Oh dear. Looks like I am cursed with a really terrible hardware configuration. It would be cheaper to get the PS2 HDD :(

I'm running it at 1024x1024 on a 700mhz PIII, with 256RAM and a GeForce2 32MB. It's chunky, but I can group well enough. It hasn't caused me to kill my party yet.
I have an entirely new computer sitting next to me in a box, needing to be put together. The parts came in yesterday night. It's got an Athlon 2800+ 2.08Ghz, 1GB Corsair 3200LL RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB, Raptor 10,000RPM HDD. (That's my temporary CPU and video card until Athlon 64 and PCI-Express are ready for use.)
Can't wait to turn up the resolutions and enable the bump mapping.

That really depends on what video card it is; if its a GF2 or something, which has TNL, you might be able to play it... if its onboard graphics or something, forget about it.

yeah you really should upgrade your computer...
for like 250-300 bucks you can upgrade your moboard, memory and processor to like a athlon 2500 barton, 512 megs ddr400 ram, and a decent moboard. You really would be more value out of that for your buck than buying the ps2 HDD....more things to do with the pc and FFXI will be better also (graphics, etc)
check newegg.com
i've got an athlon 3000, 1 gig ddr400 buffalo tech ch5 RAM, radeon 9600pro, dfi lanparty II Ultra, 120gig seagate 7200 rpm HDD, 80 gig seagate 7200 rpm HDD

Won't run, sorry.
Even my 1ghz Thunderbird chokes in many places. It's quite smooth when I'm partying in an open area and we're the only party there, but some areas and additional parties cause major slowdown. So much that it sometimes makes combat more difficult.

yeah i wouldnt even try it. I know people with 1.5 ghz comps, tons of ram and 64 meg cards that are switching to the ps2 version when it comes out because of poor pc performance.

a pci card is not going to be very good, get a card that uses the AGP (accelerated graphics port) slot, 95% of current cards use the AGP slot...its pretty much standard now.
you can get a good card, such as the 9600 radeon pro 128 meg for like 145$ or so on newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-301&catalog=48&depa=0
a radeon 9600 XT goes for 159$
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-142-020&catalog=48&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=0
the XT is a newer model and is slightly faster, like say 5-10%.
if you really dont want to spend over 100$ go with the radeon 9200 128 meg for like 70$
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-142-011&catalog=48&depa=0
hope that helps!

My turdputer:
1.8 GHz Celeron
128, yes 128mb DDR RAM
32mb Intel Extreme Graphics Chip, with no TnL
56k modem
Can I run it?
Yes I can, and I lag yea, but not so bad it prevents me from a pt, most of the time when I lag i say so, and half the other pt says they laggin aswell. I got backbuffer set to 512x512, not so bad, the games hella playable. The only bad thing, it takes a while to load maps and the character models, which means RAM upgrade time. (which is needed like hell anyway, cmon 128?!?)

WoW. I feel hopeless then.
If I were to pay $400 to upgrade my compy, I would rather sell my current system and get a new Dell.
