if u r trying to connect it to the CATV network, check if the cable company authenticates the NIC's MAC address. (if u don't know what it is, just think MAC address to be a unique serial # that's assigned to each and every NIC's sold in the world.)

if not, try manually typing in all the values.

if they do so indeed, there r 2 things u can do;

1) get a rounter, and set it up so it "clones" the MAC address of the NIC of ur friends' PC. after that, auto setup should work.

2) if Cox Comm allows more than 1 MAC address to be listed within the same acct, have them add the MAC address of ur ps2 hdd. (there might be a fee for this, u have to ask them about it.) and then, after connecting ur ps2, restart the cable modem. (in other words, unplug from the power outlet, wait 30 secs, and then reconnect it, so that it authenticates ur ps2's MAC address.)

hope it helps.
