If I have 2 copies of FFXI with 2 different ffxi registration codes will i be able to play my characters from one contect ID on each pc or will I still have to pay 12.95 for the seperate account. I am not creating any new ID I simply want to use 2 characters at once from my character list.

short answer: you will have to pay the extra $12.95 to use another character at the same time.

Long Answer:

First, let me comment on what I think may be a slight confusion in terms, if I am mistaken, I welcome the correction.

When you register a version of FFXI, you get a Playonline ID. This is what allows you to access Playonline. The cost of the Playonline ID is 12.95 per month.

To Create a character you need a Content ID. One Content ID is included in the 12.95 charge, each additonal Content ID is 1.00 per month.

Having said that, I will try and answer your question.
I was actually wondering the same thing because I bought the PC version, and I play it on my friends PC and I wanted to know if I would be able to play my current character on the PS2 when I got the HDD.
So I called Customer Service and asked them. My understanding is that you can select Add User at the Playonline Menu. This allows you to use any Content IDs that are Linked to that User(Playonline ID).

If it is your intent to play two characters created on one Playonline ID at the same time, then the answer is no. If you want to play with two characters at the same time, you need two Playonline ID's at 12.95 a month each.

hope that helps

How about having two versions of the same game playing at the same time with different playonline id's?

Im not sure I understand you correctly.
If you mean having two purchased versions of FFXI, this would give you two Playonline IDs which would allow you to play on two machines at the same time. However any characters(Content IDs) linked to one PlayOnline ID cannot be played at the same time on two machines. Also any characters (Content IDs) created on one PlayOnline ID cannot be played on the other PlayOnline ID.

If you mean can you access your PlayOnline ID created with a different version of the game on a different machine, then the answer is yes. But you will not be able to log into the same PlayOnline ID on more than one machine at the same time.

Side note: When you enter all the Registration numbers at the beginning of the game you are not Registering your version of the game so much as you are creating a PlayOnline ID. While you can install one version of the game on as many machines as you like, the Registration numbers are only good for the creation of one PlayOnline ID. If you want two PlayOnline IDs you need to purchase two versions of the game.

hope that helps

almost correct.

the only thing that's not correct is that what u r paying for r Content ID's, and playonline acct is free. in other words, even when u cancel ur Content ID's, u can still use ur POL acct without paying a dime.

at any rate, it's correct that if u wanna play 2 characters simultaneously, u have to pay $12.95/mon for EACH.

What about when you upgrade your computer/wipe your hard drive. Can you still just reinstall and start playing again?

Ok, another question... and yes, these two differ... is it Dial-up or broadband or both that this applies to?

My brother and I both want to play ps2 at the same time together on the same server. So...with what your saying we are both going to need seperate accounts when we will be running from the same network. If that is the way it is that is really stupid because Square-Enix is just taking our money away from us. We both had to struggle to have our parents let us preorder the HDD because we thought we could play at the same time from the same account and not have to pay over 25 dollars a month.

Put it planed in simple to play two characters at the same time need two accounts meaning you pay 25.90. Now if you just want two characters but can't play at the same time you will have just 1 account that you pay 13.95 a month.

Then what else would stop you from giving your account info out to all of your friends and just having them keep their characters on your account and pay you the $1 per month? This policy prevents piracy of their software. There is a $12.95 monthly fee for each person that want to play the game at the same time. Deal with it.
