As hard as O try I can't see myself not being a DRG the polearm is just appealing and the jumps are just too useful for rnaged attack/tp gain/instant hate loss (we beat DRK's there). So just wondering if nay high level DRG's could share: How does your usual battle go, how useful is your wyvern, why u love DRG? I heard wyverns get weak at higher levels, is this so? will thye be made more durable?

Here is how it goes : I hit things until they die, do skillchains when its time to do skillchains, get agro, hit high jump, get really bad agro, hit super jump. Haven't used wyvern in any parties in the last 8 levels except beetles in Crawler's, otherwise its barely helpful to have, just dies in 3 fights anyway. Have most AF now (missing helm), it still dies really fast. Not much of an upgrade. Its a gimmick ability for 90% of the things I fight.

Weaknesses : really low versatility in skillchains, low def, really can't take a hit at all at high levels, 2 hour ability is mostly pointless, Polearm has a half damage penalty to undead, only other weapon close to the skill of polearm is Staves (B- rank). Strengths : hate removal/mitigation, decent melee damage, situational sub job utility with the wyvern via different breaths (its *something* I guess...). Don't think I left anything out.

I'm still enjoying my Wyvern at level 38. It hits harder than most people in my party (apart from those with 2 handed weapons) and against high defence monsters can sometimes hit even harder than I do. Comes in handy if you want to solo too, you have a perminent party member, just try to keep it away from AoE attacks.

just smash things
skill chain off my samurai buddy and thats about it?

i'm also the trick attack gimp most of the time so i need to budget the high and super jump. THX THF FADGITS =P

wyvern is good when its around, you cant argue against free DPS
but dies way too fast.

you AF armour sucks (cept for the boots) and your JSE is worse.

your end game BP is the scorpion harness +1 (retail price of 7-9 million gil), until square decides to beef up dragoon JSE or put something better in.

I'm not an extreamly high Dragoon just yet, but here's my exploits as of this far. In one battle I used Jump three times. Jump is amazing, it does good damage and is an extra attack for you. I use it when the puller brings the monster into range. Then continue to use it or save for next pull. With my spear I do the most damage out of the party. I don't know if it's my streangth or addition to attac but my damage seems to be the hightest. Lumiere my wyvern does quite a bit of damage as well, he attacks at the same rate as me, and misses about the same amount. He has died a few times but if the tanks does thier job and you hit more than you miss he'll survive.

Weakneess: Dexterity, accuracy, if your Elvaan, I am and I missed a lot, but I got equipment that really helps out, I still miss a bit but hit a lot. If I hit more I would get a lot more hate, so that could be a problem. The other problem is Armor, you can only equip medium armor, makes it rough to take any hits. Wyvern dying and dissapearing like when you ride a chocobo is kinda uncalled for and you really have to think before you call your wyvern so you can keep him around, they are extreamly helpful.

Oh and for WS and Chains, Dragoons are very nice, I sub Samuria so I get more Tp than most people. As long as other members are willing to tell you their tp and get a chain with you'll be good. With the wyvern, it really helps to help other people time there WS with your wyvern. I use Radien thrust and then Lumiere does something and the other person using thier WS at the same time and bam, perfection. If you don't have anyone to go with your wyvern is more than enough, you use whatever you feel will do more damage and your wyvern will follow you.;)

how much TP do you get per swing with a lvl 14 sam sub? i heard the first TP boost only gives you an extra TP every 2-3 swings.. not THAT much of a difference..

Below 30, my drg was getting TP just as fast as a sam thanks to the extra jumps i could do. If you think spear WS are bad, try using a scythe on drk or war. Not only do their ws do suckass damage, they are incredibly incompatable with skillchains. :spin:

I just got 30 yesterday. Sneak Attack and Double Thrust work well. I have about 42 dex, so I hit a lot. I get my TP fast and use SA+DT. I'll get hate from that and there was a THF that did SA+TA on the PLD. Worked awesome. I only got hit 1 or 2 times that way. THF's gotta be patient with Trick. It can me dangerous if not used at the right time.

THF sub for Sneak Attack loses its luster by 50. Since Sneak only improves the damage of the first hit, thats why Double Thrust does more damage. Its pretty sad when coupled with Penta Thrust, and Berserk/Double Attack go a long way to improving your damage output, more so than a THF. Personally I prefered WAR sub over thf pre 50 too because berserk is a big help to overall damage output, sneak attack is just 1 hit. To each their own I guess.

sneak attack on a sub-thf job also maxes out a 2x damage regardless of how much dex you might have.

For TP concerns, I get one extra tp per successful hit than normal without sam sub. When I get the level 25 Samuria I'll get 2 extra tp per hit, you can all say that's not a lot, but it all adds up. PLus when I'm level 60 and 30 sam sub, I'll get meditate, instant tp each minute, that'll be extreamly nice. I've gotten many combos with skyth and other wepons. Then our mage gets a nice MB off of it.

You just do what your hearth want, so be a Dragoon if that you really want. All the class will have down side, as long you enjoy the one you pick you should be happy.

- Wyvern is a good permanent 2 hours, until it die.

- Jump, High Jump are mainly more attack, but it can deliver some nice dmg sometime, very helpfull to pull mob very fast and help build TP.

- Ancien circle (protec. again dragon) is a joke as 95%+ of mob are not dragon

- You are a decent dmg dealer that receive invite pretty often

- You can tank until 30, but you will never be as good as Warrior or Paladin. You only gona be a mp sponge for the healer as a main tank. At leat if you Elvaan or Galka you will have enouth HP to survive the fight.

Last nite at lev 38 i was main tank (ya i know, got 2 taru whm/blm + 1 smn/whm with more mp than you can wish for) as our Paly left. I was doing a ok job to tank (711HP) keeping aggro was not to hard (voke, WS alone +jump+hjump). Because of smn have all his avatar, the job of main tank was doable, but i highly don't recommand any one (even more Taru Drg) to do such thing with trumendus healing power to support you (and a freaking good whm that you thrust).

As for my Wyvern, i needed to heal about once evry 30-45min, i always do hit once i done a WS and got zero tp or very close so i don't slow down the group. I was in CN doing worker crawler that was IT to me if someone want to know.

As long you enjoy your class/race combo, go ahead and have fun, this is a game and not a work.
