View Full Version : dont go afk and pretend nothing happened DAMMIT
something so gay happened to me today
im a taru 30pld/13war(gonna go back to lvling my sub now) and i was lvling in one of the bunkers in battalia downs this afternoon
well we had 1 whm and 1 blm in our party, the blm was cool but the whm kept going afk for god knows what reason, i realized he was afk when i asked for protectra and it took like what 5mins for him to respond ?
well but nevermind, i kept quiet about that since it was no big deal as long as he didnt let me die
the lvling went on, and coz im a taru, i heal myself alot as i have a massive MP pool for a fighter, i try to lower downtime for the mages by keeping our MP pools on the same level
well i guess the whm took it that since i was able to heal myself pretty efficiently, he decided to snooze off again, i was unaware he was looking elsewhere, and since my MP was gettin pretty low, i decided to let him heal me while i start a renkei. Well u guessed it, he allowed the goblin to butcher me and suddenly jerked awake to cast a Cure III on me when im at 80 HP, i couldnt cast on myself in time coz i was fiddling with the WS reporting macro(its on macro set #2 while my cures are on #1), and of course i died.
Well i aint so pissed about dying, these things do happen, but what happened was the drk in my party went "doh elwe", and the whm juz said nothing about it. Then after awhile he pte msged me "hey sorry i was debuffing, thought the bard was healing, ill keep an eye on you now".thats crap coz the log shows him casting a poison, and then there was like 5-6 hits + a bomb toss before he started a Cure III on me. So my party members continued thinking its my own fault for trying to tank with a taru and the reason i died was because of my tiny HP pool of 406(at lvl 29). Well, the actual reason was i took 5 hits from an IT goblin in a row, each hit about 50-70 damage without getting ANY heals from my whm at all, + a bomb toss. Mage went "um guys so do u guys want me to heal or debuff ?" Wtf? a mage with 300 MP juz to debuff and a bard with 75 MP heal ? Then the party went "hey warrior(elvaan) u tank ok?" Warrior : ok. Mage : yeah thats a good idea.
what kinda bullshiet is that, it wasnt my fault for dying, i lost 500 XP for doing my job, the rest of the party dont even bother reading the logs and suddenly im a bad tank and the only thing im good at(tanking) is given to someone else in the party, and the mage didnt even bother to clear things up acting like nothing happened. dammit
sorry if i sound whiney

Hey man i understand exactly. There is nothing wrong with a taru tank at all. What they lack in HP they more than make up for in MP. I mean come on u can grab agro like crap with those cure 2's. Anyways that whm was obviously a noob. Their opinions are irrelevant. Sounds like they are a bunch of 12 year olds that have simple minds still. Ur a good tank man don't let it get u down.

Unfortunately taru pld lack of def/hp is a disadvantage. I've partied with taru pld's, and although 95% of the time it's OK because of your crazy mp, the other 5% - unforseen circumstances like party getting linked - you just don't have a big enough hp pool to survive these emeregencies.

Sort of off topic, but along the same vein. I HATE White Mages that don't own up to their mistakes. The most recent example I can think of for me was in the Crawler's Nest vs Rumble Crawlers I believe. Our BLM had just been raised (I told him he was nuking too fast), and he was past the rez sickness. Our THF pulls a rumbler, and the BLM mentions that he needs protect. After the rumbler pulls up, the WHM starts his protectra III and shellra macro, which has a 5 second wait. I died in 10 seconds from straight normal hits because the WHM didn't cure me once. He then proceeds to rail on the RDM blaming him for my death, even though the RDM tried. 10 seconds is a very short time, and as the fight started, he cast refresh on the whm, cast a debuff on the mob, realized the whm wasn't healing me, and threw me a cure, but it was too late. Anyway the RDM left shortly after that due to the constant arguing with the WHM, which neutered our party since we were now refresh-less. All the WHM had to say was "I'm sorry you died, it was my fault." He didn't even say he was sorry I died, much less admit guilt, even though all the melee's sent me a tell saying how sorry they were.

Can't you cure yourself?

I meant to talk about that in my first post but I forgot. :o I went for 2 Cure III's. I got interrupted the first time and died before my 2nd one came out. IMO Crawlers are the hardest mob for me to time cure's inbetween their hits mostly because of their short delay between attacks and there's usually a lot more lag in the crawler's nest than in other places.

Mages = main heal. PLD should heal to keep hate and when they are down to last bit of HP. In this case it was the Mages fault.
Crawlers double hit as well. Musta been a string of criticals if it only took 10 seconds...

Heh have fun with the the wizard ants in QSC and the Blue mnk giants on floor 11 and 12 of delkfutt tower. Those 2 are evil. The mnk i swear has 100 fist on and the wizard ants i cant remember their name but they have a very short attack time. :)

This may or may not be true, but it seems like anyone can die under emergency circumstances if things don't go right. Especially if someone else isn't doing their job properly.

Well any paladin can get ko'd in an unlucky circumstance. Its just the fact that certain races have more of a buffer than others.
For instance, was in Davoi fighting Dragoon orcs, I get jumped for 400 and get hit with 2 200 crits on a double attack right before.
Dead Elvaan.
Tarus are fine, as long as they don't fight scorpions/spiders/exorays/bats.

And pugils (sidewinder), ghosts (curse + ancient magic), bombs (self destruct), shadows (dimensional death)....
Nah just kidding, but it's no secret that Tarus have less of a HP buffer to survive these monsters... all of them (including the ones bruce listed) have the potential of hurting you badly with just 1 special... (and some of them do them quite frequently, such as shadows and dimensional death, which ignores defense. In one fight, one of them did like 5 or 6 on me, it was quite annoying.)

Just want to say this, maybe it will apease some anger.
"Love thy tank so that he will take hits for you. Keep him healed and keep that mob debuffed so that he takes less hits."
Ugh, I hate it when noobs cant do their jobs and blame you. I grow more intollerant everyday.

Thats the most common problem a protector of a support character faces. You have that high percentage of meeting a support character that will make your job a living hell.
I'm going to say that ~ that person was not afking. It seems like an old trick, I've seen before in other mmorpgs. They were just sitting there pretending to afk. Basically the WHM was too much of a coward to heal you cause that person knew his ass woulda been on that monsters mind as the result. When he afked the first time, if you woulda known he was gonna be chronic about it, I know you'd sure kick him out of the party.
Having an incompetant WHM in a party is wasting party space...

Heh Zaleshea, I met a WHM like that, except she didn't try to hide it. I was pulling a worker crawler, and one had popped on the way back, I announced this and the blm started casting escape before I got back. So far so good. I got back to the party, and stood there waiting for the escape while the 2 crawlers beat on me. Obviuosly I had no chance of healing myself with 2 things hitting me. I died right before the warp out, because the whm didn't heal me once. More than a little annoyed, I asked the whm if she would please heal me while i'm dying. She told me, "I didn't want to get aggo" which i took to mean, "I don't want to do my job." Left the group, blacklisted the whm. :p

A side note to Kerensky and others.
Crawlers is a good place to start learning to cure 3 in between hits. Once you see that it starts to swing its head, press Cure3 quick. You reach another level of PLD if you perfect the art of curing ^^.
There are others you might learn such as 'hate management' in due course. My term of 'hate management' is maintaining suitable hate on yourself instead of excessive hate. It is useful especially if you PT with a THF.

We exp'd in the overlord room from 61-64 I think. I would recommend sorrow valle over Davoi though. Just the entrance from terrigan has like 7 total raptors, so if you have two groups there its gg exp. Theres another way in from gustav but sometimes Bunes up and its hard to get by. O_o
My group usually likes to have a lot of room for itself so chaining is easier in Davoi.
But the orcs have insane hp/defense compared to anything else, so it might not be worth it for some parties. We went back to onzozo at 64 and found the cats there incredibly easy comparitively.
And whats cool about exp'n in the overlord room is you can pull the nm's there if you want (we didn't bother too much because the hexspinner uses manafont and drains the mages mana for any further chains) and can get somewhat good drops. The Non-named Overlord is doable at 63-64 and drops a cool sword supposedly (paladins can't equip). He looks incredibly cool too
But beware if the named Overlord is up, he hits for a ton and has a long agro radius.:( :(

thanks for the info bruce, i enjoy the mass slaughter of beastmen so davoi might be the choice for me :)
