hi guys this is my first post here

i have a lvl 11drag/5thf on lakshmi server before that i was a whm up to lvl 30 then got drg job. im thinking of scraping my taru adn going for a hume for better melee dmg and hp but im not sure i mean tarus are fun to play i luke running around and /panic motion  but ive read alot of ppl saying "tarus bad fighters low hp low dmg" then i hear someone say "race doesnt matter gear > race, make for your low str with some rings" im just a little confused i dont know if i should scrap my taru and go hume or just stick to it. at the moment i do the same dmg as pld or wars in my party a little extra coz of wyvern but my polearm dmg is pretty much the same and thats using a meat mithkabob too

if anyone can give me some advise :) thanx

Im a level 43 Taru DRG/THF on asura and loving it. Race really doesnt matter for melee type classes, you can always get gear to counter balance your weaknesses. I have a permagroup so i wont ever have to tank so hp doesnt matter to me much (dragoons shouldnt be tanking anyways).

For any dex issues which isnt much beceuse i dont miss that often, i have 2 sniper rings and a Spike necklace, for attack i have +3 attack earrings.

Taru do fine for Dragoons, basicly just play what you want. Also im pretty sure im the highest Taru DRG on asura atm, iv never seen one higher level :)

Thats good to hear.

I was wondering the same thing.

Taru have such a low strength compaired to the other races, but they are so cute and fun to play :)

Welll...keep in mind that although gear will make up for your deficiencies in melee, you will often have to choose between DEX or STR - it is rare that you find an item which gives both DEX and STR, like the spike necklace. With a Hume/Elvaan/Mithra/Galka DRG, you are free to pile on as much dex/acc as possible.

As a Taru DRG, you still have to put on as much dex/acc stuff as possible, but your str/attk will not be the equal of the other races, if your gear is the same, and that's a fact.

However, I think the biggest problem will not be str or dex...it'll be hp. Hp for a DRG is still very important, because you will eventually draw aggro sooner or later, no matter how good your tank is, and you will survive far less hits than a DRG of another race. As a DRG, you will not tank, of course, but who ever said no to free hp?

But this game is not all about powergaming and being uber leet...if you like playing Taru DRG, then go ahead! You just have to work that much harder at playing catch-up* than a DRG of another race. It is not quite as bad as going Galka WHM, but always keep in mind that taru are gimped for melee stats, and that's another fact.

*For me, the effort of playing catch-up can be better used in other ways - like levelling, or getting better gear to put myself even further ahead of the other DRGs.

p.s. I've seen a level 70 taru DRG/WAR named Pug on Sylph. Extremely impressive when you check him out, but he looks so cute and tasty when he's running around.

thanx for the advice guys but ive gone ahead and made a galka  more hp more str so yeah. just before i made my galka i was lvling my thf job with my taru. lvl 7 thf i could bearly solo decents i ran out of hp that fast and my dmg was low... so im kinda giving up on my taru... hes hella cute though. even though u can get gear to make up for your losses but you will always be weaker in melee terms compared to say a galka or a hume.

thanx agian guys

im on lakshmi server names Thrall  big galka dude

Hey it's your choice man. Personaly i'm gonna level my taru blm to about 50 then try drg for a while. There are several hq items that give big boosts that hardly anyone has (a subligar with blue border that gives +5 attack for 40k comes to mind). These items pluss a lot of mithkabobs will bring you a lot closer to other melee. Since i'm gonna be 50 blm too, the money wont be a problem. Also, taru melee has the same charm as a galka mage, it's just so cool.

its all about the +acc items

dex does very little for DRGs
STR does more but its usually more efficient to pick up +attk items

Dex has very little to due with Dragoon??? heres a news flash

2 Dex = 1 Acc

Our main problem is Accuaracy. For spots where you ca get +Acc early (like rings) you go with Dex.

i follow this guide when buying equipment...

ACC>DEX>ATK>STR

in lower levles its easy to counter by having good gear, like hitting 14 and equping 2 balance rings, 21, equiping spike and beeles+1 that brings u alot closer b/c your standard player (noobs basically only saying it nice) won't have that stuff so it will help, as will food. but sooner or later everyone is going to be running around w/ beetle, beetle +1 fang, assault etc etc so keep that in mind

Being good is a matter of equips and player skill, not race. Once you have access to the higher level stuff, equips > race.

Being the best is well, just having the best of everything--race, equips, skill, and maybe luck. There is no need to be the best, good is plenty. Tarus will never be the best at melee anyway.

Tarus can be good drg, all it needs is a little extra work to stay well equiped. (Don't bother with +str until you're sure that you have maxed out your acc, which is like hitting ~90% of the time.)

Tarus only have one real real real Weakness.

That is HP.

As a Dragoon you shouldnt get hit anytime.

I never get hit, unless someone is tricking off me.

The trick is to use High Jump (reduces your hate greatly)
and Super Jump.

Don't fool yourself though, you will hit weaker than everyone else. But it is by no means something you CAN'T manage or that will get you excluded from parties.

I am very stats driven and i wouldnt want a tarutaru PLD / DRK or WAR in my party (Unless War/Nin).

I wouldnt mind a taru dragoon though.

The update says:
An issue regarding the accumulation of TP with weapon skills that consist of multiple strikes (Combo, Penta Thrust, etc.) will be corrected.

"Corrected", not "totally changed". There is still some hope left^^

I don't like Taru melee besides THF or RNG due to the very low STR and average combat stats. STR differences are hard to compensate, accuracy is not. While everyone says equipment can compensate, its not entirely true. Everyone says a DRG should never be hit either - shit happens. Plenty of times I had a tank DC and had to pop defender and get agro to tank a mob til it dies, or allow someone to get escape off. Taru can't really do that. They take the low def factor of a DRG and make it even worse having next to no survivability in a bad situation, and there will likely be times you might get agro bad and a Jump isn't up.

If you really don't care about the possibility of bad situations (because they do happen), then by all means. Even in a perfect world where nothing went wrong I'd still rather be a Hume or Elvaan DRG simply for not having such a significant STR penalty.

Taru melee is basically for people who want to be cute. All other races are functionally better though.
