I finally got my copy yesterday, and I spent last night experimenting and figuring various things out!

One thing I couldn't figure out at all. How does the /friendslist work? I could figure out how to bring up the window, but not how to add friends or anything.

Anyone have any idea?

fl is a bit a complex but i try to explain it the best i can

they way i add people on my fL is to do
so i want to add nadyxes on your fl
i would do
/sea all nadyxes
then u get a menu with 3 options
choose the second one
and then wait a bit
you get some jp words
hit enter
then on my fl it would pop up that i have a msg
so i would then say ok or no
if say ok then i accepted
if say no then i didnt accept
then i would do the same thing back for you
so i would do
/sea all raynbow
choose second option
then you would respond by using ok
then on the FL
if we are online at the same time
it would say Nadyxes XI location
thats the best explanation i could give =)

Ok, we messed with this for a while, but couldnt get anything to work.

I now have names in parenthesis on my friends list, but they dont seem to do anything.

They are even grouped in two categories, but I cant get any information from either category.

I really just want a way to know which of my friends are online, and which ones aren't. Is there a way to do this? Because I'm totally confused by this friendslist thing.

Friendlist is a message type system.
If you are Mr.A want to add Mr.B in your friendlist:

Step1 (Mr.A),
- /sea all Mr.B
- Select Mr.B name then choose No.2 (send Mr.B a message asking for friend)

Step2 (Mr.B),
- at Friendlist (No.8) and Message submenu (No.2) you will see a message from Mr.A with "FWT" subject.
- After select that message will have 8 submenu for reply the message, choose No.3 (I don't know what it is but this is the correct reply)

Step3 (Mr.A)
- After Mr.B reply your "FWT" message you will receive 2 reply messages from Mr.B
- A message with subject "FOK" (he say friend ok!) and "FWT" asking you to be his friend too...
- Select the "FOK" message, then No.5 (only acknowledge the system that you've read this message)
- Select the "FWT" message, then No.1

Step4 (Mr.B)
- Mr.B will get "FOK" message after Mr.A reply to Mr.B's "FWT" message.

PS: Hope someone read this topics then translate the reply menu of "FOK" and "FWT" message.

whoa there's a /sea command?
i always searched them up with search name->world then clicked on "send message" ("ƒ?ƒbƒZ?[ƒW‚ð‘—‚é"), it does the same thing^^;; the best thing to do is to ask a LS member or someone u know in-game... on forums its hell to explain^^;;

Once you do all this stuff. Does it put them on your friendslist and indicate when they are online and all of that? If it doesn't I'm not going to try and figure it out.
That's all I really want.

If it does do that, how is it indicated in the flist that a friend is online?

Yes, when you add friends to your friends list, it will show you if they are online or not. (Assuming they are not in ANON mode or hiding otherwise)

In the POL Viewer, their online status will show up at the top where the date and time is displayed. Clicking on the arrows will display a drop-down list of all your friends that are online.

In the game, going to the Friends List option and displaying the list will show you all the friends that are shown online to you and those shown off-line to you.

If you need to add a friend, you can follow the above instructions. But if it still doesn't work or having trouble, you can do it the slightly longer way I have posted here: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6380&perpage=16&pagenumber=5

You will need to scroll down a bit to get to the begining of the instructions.
