Question for those that own the PS2 and PC version: possible same account on both?

I have heard that you can play with your friends on the PS2 when you are on the PC version, and vice versa.
It's this understanding that led me to the question...

Could you use a PS2 account on the PC, or the PC account on the PS2?

*This question is for those who have both imports*

I understand that there is alot of japanese in the menus, so if this hasn't been found yet, could it be to the language barrier here.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone with both could test this out.

It could save alot of cash and time.
The PS2 version will probably come out first, so I would want to get started with that.
But, I really wanna play on the PC, so I would like to continue my account on the PC to keep my characters and levels.

I understand that the game is saved online, and the info that you put in the hard drive is the game and updates, but not the character information. (would lead to character hacks)

This seems possible doesn't it?
Or maybe it's just wishful thinking....
