I'm not sure this is the proper place to ask this question but can anybody explain to me if there's any strategic use of an astral ring? (i.e. put it on and off 3 of times to convert 75 hp to mp, as opposed to a standard +25mp -25hp)

Is there a '-25hp +25mp' ring? I don't recall ever seeing anything of the sort ...
Anyway what Astral rings do is change the values of your max hp/mp, so equipping one will not give you 'free' mp, it will just increase your max mp by 25 (but it will reduce your max hp by 25, and you won't get that hp back when you unequip the ring).

There is no special strategical use of Astral Rings. As long as you have one equipped, it will convert 25 of your HP to MP. Once you unequip it, the effect is nulled > You'll have 25 more HP again, but lose 25MP.
I have not yet come across a -25HP +25MP ring, however I'm wearing Electrum Rings right now and they are -20HP +20MP.

Then that's a standard +- effect. I thought "Converts x hp to mp" worked like RDMs convert when you put it on. Can anybody corroborate this?

No it does not work like RDM Convert
The difference between the convert effect, and the plus minus effect, is that for the convert effect to work, you actually have to have whatever it's taking away to get the bonus.
For example: Say I had 25 HP and 25 MP. If I equip the ring that 'converts 20 MP to HP' , then I'd have 45 HP and 5 MP.
But if I were a pure warrior and did this (25 HP and 0 MP for the example) , then the ring would do nothing, because it has nothing to convert, see?
With the Plus (Whatever) rings, it doesn't matter if you have what the equipment involves. If it takes 7 MP away and gives 7 HP, a warrior would simply get 7 Free HP :)

The thought had merit at least. You have to give the person who started the post that much. xD

Wow I saw one that sold in sandoria AH for 7,500k or something close to that. 160k is a lot more. I think there is a quest you can do for this ring and I'd like to know where it is :)

to my knowledge it is NOT crafted.
It is a rare 'drop' from a chest in Castle Ostroja ( deep in lvl 60+ )
I've asked many high lvl JP's and they have all given me the same answer as above.

That sounds believable because +25 MP is really high.

I'm pretty sure its the rare chest item for Castle Ostroja. not a rare drop from a mob.

Actually, from what I've heard, its the Coffer item for Oztroja, not the chest item. A thief in my LS is somewhat annoyed about this because it means that she has to compete with high level coffer campers for a piece of her AF armor.

It is a coffer item when opened by people who doesn't have the AF quest. There are alot of trouble from other players if you farm Astral rings because there are 3 jobs whome the AF is in this very coffer.
Astral rings are equipable from lvl 10 If I recall correctly, and yes it converts 25Hp into 25mp. The items close to that effect is Electrum rings which does 20hp to 20mp but has a lvl40 restriction on it. AFter this probably Serklet (sp?) ring would be the best converting ring which is 50hp to 50mp, how ever the ring itself is rare which you can only wield one per character.
P.S. If you try to farm coffers in Oztroya, expect alot of people trying to complete their AF to call the GM because you are INTERFIERING with other peoples PROGRESS. Yes this is not a joke, there is like 5 posts of 1000 thread replies going on in Japanese boards. I can hook up with the links if necesarry.

If it's like RSE quest, openning a Chest for RSE make the chest pop back about 5mn. If oppening the chest for loot make the chest pop back about 30mn, so it's not realy fair for RSE people to make them wait 30mn instead of 5.

On Cait Sith, you'll find the same characters dead on top of the Oztroja coffer spawn locations every single day. When a coffer spawns, they accept the raise (taking advantage of the fact that you have an hour to accept your raise), open the coffer, and then suicide on top of the spawn point. Then a WHM runs by and casts Raise 3 on them. Reportedly its the same player running all of the characters. It drove a Thief in my LS nuts until she was finally able to find a time when he wasn't on.
In comparison, my WHM only has to worry about the fact that he's competing for the Garliage coffer spawn with three other people in the LS his level, and you are required to have a party of at least four in order to reach the spawn locations.

AF coffers are now random pop. Or at least the last patch has changed this from static 30min to random. Clearly they haven't stated how random but I have been hearing from 20min ~ 2hour gap. Probably I will try completing my AF when I am around 60 or so... not that I am looking forward for the Oztroja part

Sorry but i sound a bit confused to what this ring can do that's worth so much.
Convert 25hp-25Mp.
Mean u have it equipped.. and say, you're in a group and you're down with 500hp/5mp.
SO what now? u unequip and equip the ring to activate the effect and make it 475hp/30mp or you simply click the ring?
Now if it's used using the unequip and equip technique.. if i were to have a -25hp/+25mp ring instead... in the same case.. upon unequip i'll become 525hp/0mp but upon equip i'll have 500hp/25mp again.
Never mind this para, i just remember, you only boost the max mp avai up but u dun gain the actual bonus, you'll still need to heal to get that extra mana.
Kindly clear my doubts. Thank you. Coz i am thinking of the effect would be good if it's a clickable item but rather crappy if you need to unequipped and equip to get the effect

simple, while you equip the ring, you have 25 more mana and 25 less life.
If you unequip it, you get your stats back.
I got a circlet giving me -6hp +15 mana, it work the same.
It's very usefull for a Galka or Elvaan since they have big life and poor mana pool.

I dun think it's somehow true for other rings. AS i've said if you read through those normal ring would only make your stats like.. from
example a -25hp/+25mp ring
80/80hp 20/20mp ---> 65/65hp 20/45mp. It does not gives you that mana you need. You'll have to heal...

Thats why im very happy with my -20hp/+20mp ring for 7k gil each. Ill not waste my gil for 10 mana points.

yeah and you get those electrum's at 40 not 10+ think of how if will help elvaan/galka/hum mage classes from 10+ not from 40+..hell everyone has electrum above 40 because its cheap.
I've just gotten an electrum ring today myself... The question is should I replace my Windurstian Ring or Saintly Ring? The Saintly Ring seems pretty useless now. MND isn't very important. The Windurstian ring gives 3 MP, 1 AGI, and 1 INT by the way ^^;. Just curious on what I should keep

neither. you should get two electrum rings. as a whm, it's important for you to let off more cures than it is for your cures to be more powerful. quantity of cures > quality of cures. this is especially important if you're leveling off of spiders who have the ability to kill a pld in 1 or 2 shots (love that sickle slash). the bonus to mnd isn't all that important. sure it'll increase the power of your cures, but cures are capped by level and your healing skill will be maxed thust giving you the ability to cure for max without the mnd bonus.

My cure III does 186 atm and 189 with 2 +2mnd rings instead of electurm rings (is the cap at 190?). I usually prefer efficiency over more mp, but in that case, 3 hp isn't that important compared to 40 mp more. Typically the size of the gas tank doesn't matter compared to the fuel efficiency. Higher efficieny cures means less time refilling as long as your tank is big enough for the fight.

I'm back to using just electrum rings for now, the astral ring are nice but I have never got close to running completely dry on MP even when the crap hits the fan with a link or going for xp chain#5.
Switching from astral to electrum lets you free up some gil to get stuff like Holy shield, RaiseII or those nifty level 51+ staves with +mp recover when resting ^^.
