Yeah so after going to lvl 8 without buying any new equipment, besides shield and bronze sword, I finally have enough money (about 4k to be exact) to buy a Carbon Fibre fishing rod!!!!
So exciting for me.. haha, well before I blow off all my work I wanna check wiht you people... cos if this rod of mine breaks I'll cry.
So...before going into the fishing questions...
I know how the selling works at the auction house, how does the bidding system work? Like is it highest bidder takes or anyone meeting the set price wins right away?
Now onto the fishing...
K should I buy a lot of cheap rods or just one carbon fibre fishing rod? cos my fishing skill is at flat 0 right now... perhaps I should use crappy rods until i get a good level to catch carps.
Then.. Where should I fish? I'm in sandoria right now.. perhaps the docks area? or maybe the rivers around east ronfaure?
For bait... Little worms. I've heard so much about them :D
Any advice is also welcome
Thanks!!!!
<EDIT> Btw i forgot... where do I buy fishing equipment? like fishing gloves, etc etc... the ones that add to ur skill level... and how much are they??

The AH works like this:
When you sell items, you put a minimum price on the item you sell.
When you bid on items, you get the item if you bid higher than the cheapest price. Also note that the cheapest item is always sold first, so by setting lower prices you might get your gil faster, but you also risk losing some profit.
I think carbon rod will work well even for a beginner fisherman. I also suggest you fish in cities, because that's where the easiest fish are.

How do u know what the cheapest price of an item is? is it the sales history thing??

I think you kind of have to guess. I have yet to see anything that says anything like lowest price.....
when you click on and item at the AH it will say "Price History, Bid, Sort" i think. anyways the price history will list the date an item was sold and for how much, so you can look there and see what the lowest bid was, then you type that in for your bid and try and get the item, if not go back and bid a little bit more on it, keep doing this till you have it

don't buy carbon fishing rod. If you use the wrong bait, that thing will snap pretty easily. If you want a durable rod that lasts for quite a while, go with composite, mithran, or if you're rich, lu shangs. Composites are about 7k on rag, mithrans are about 11k. Both are considered fairly chpea once you hit your 30s since money comes a lot easier.

Holy shit 7k
Dont think I can go further in using my newbie armor...
Whats the right bait for Carbon rod? and before it breaks could I at least get enough moat carps to pay for it? I only need like 1.5k worth of moat carps since I can sell the broken rod itself.

composite rods rarely break since they are so strong. I've heard that mithran rods are the strongest before lu shangs which sells for millions but this is not confirmed. I do know that you'll surely catch more than enough moat carp with a composite to pay for the rod itself. You can easily use small worms for 2 gil a piece or something like that to fish since the rod is so durable. At higher lvls, you can use sabiki rig on it, but not recommended since sabiki rigs are meant to catch smaller fish and composite is used to catch larger fish.
Personally I've never used a carbon rod, I skipped from fastwater, to composite, and composite has worked great.
Your statement about 7k will be laughed at by yourself once you hit your 30s, believe me. If you were on rag, I wouldn't mind giving you 5k to support your fishing.

Well, reason why I'm so stingy right now is because my income isnt very high :/
another 5k I dont know how I'm gonna get it... But it's gonna take some time if I do it the same way I got my 4k...
Would it be possible if I just bought crap for getting my fishing level up? like those 73 gil fishing rods... then after it gets to like 8, I'll grab a carbon fibre fishing rod and start fishing... once I get a steady income, I'll grab a composite rod...
Then after that, fishing gear :P
I really dont know how long I can keep up levelling myself and get money with crap armor until I just cant do it...

K thats what i did with my big Galka mule in Bastok.
After a dozen rods broke i bought myself a carbon rod and insect balls from the Auction house. The carbon was 4k and one stack insect balls was 400gil. Then i went to the mines, there is a brdige wich leeds to korrolka tunnel. This bridge is heavily camped by a lot of fishers.
Im now at fishing 5 with the same rod and with insect balls you will only fish moat carps and tricolored carps. Where it is a 85%/15% for the moat carps.
But beware! First, the rod CAN break. A friend of mine used a carbon with some lure on it (reuseable bait) and it broke (maybe because of the bait?). Second, you will go through 2 or 3 stacks of insect balls to get a stack of moat carps. Better fish at good times (new moon for example) to get a LOT more out of your stacks.
You can also use little worms as bait, but you will fish a lot of crap with that also. Im sticking with my insect balls because i want moat carps and not tons of other fish nothing worth (time is money  )
