Well yeah, tied with NIN as most expensive job in FFXI. 7 gil per mid lvl arrow may not sound like much, but then think you should attack with your bow every single time, and it gets pricier.

Then there is equipment. You should only use HQ bows when you begin to PT, and you want to raise your AGI and Ranged Acc. The items that boost those stats aint cheap. No decent ranger is going to use regular equipment, its juts a waste of money not to. Poor AGI and R.Acc. means plenty of arrows will go to waste.

If you dont have the dough, dont play one, please. Its really sad to see a RNG not using up to his lvl arrows and with poor or regular equipment. Its like a lvl 30 whm with no raise because he doesnt have money for the scroll. RNG are the best damage dealers in the game, but it comes with a hefty price tag.

However, not everything is 'bad' news. You can lvl up woodwork and craft your own arrows. Most arrows are cheaper(just cheaper, not free) to craft than to buy from vendor. You will need an initial investment to lvl up woodwork, but it will pay off. You may even get lucky and craft some +1 items which can yield you a good income.

You will really understand why RNG HAVE to use the best once you PT with a good one. All the RNG I PT with dealt only a tad more damage than other meeles, but that changed last night in dunes. I got into a PT with a mithran RNG and boy did she outshined the rest of us meeles. We were doing between 15-20 per hit, while she hit for 37-low 40s. The PLD/WAR(granted, he was only lvl 13) had one hell of a hard time keeping hate on him.

I'm a level 30 Ranger and all my equipment (not arrows) cost me about 120k. I got Great Bow+1, all Cents gear sans helm. Royal headband (+1 agi), merc belt, nomad mantle, beetle rings +1, no earrings so far but will get drone earrings.

Rangers are very good so they need gil in order to kill stuff...
I have very simular to Chez in the equipment i just dont have a belt and use martial slacks. Im debating selling them for cent pants since elvaan have crappy evasion anyway. I also use horn arrows atm and they cost me about 10 gil per shot. So if that turns ur head from being a ranger im sorry but its reality.

O yea ChezGod what server are you on and how do you get your gil. Farm or NM

I'm on diabolos and I got the gil by a combination of farming and crafting. I found a way to make a good profit from low level crafting for an item that is in high demand on my server.

Ranger's power = the amount of gil spent.

You can be a ranger without money. But your reputation as a useless ranger will spread out so fast you'll be looking for party all day long without anyone getting you.

Don't you need high boneworking as well to make any of the real bows? Plus, it costs like 12k in ingredients and the bows only sell for 13-15k, 18-20k on +1.

I also found a way to make decent money while raising woodworking. On Carbuncle i raised from lvl 0-8 in woodworking gaining money actually. like from lvl 0-3 i used arrowwood and the rest ash. BTW arrow sold for 2k a stack and ash sold for 3k. i wasnt gaining much money but it could cover for someone making bone arrows. It would kind of be like making free arrows :p
