I was just wondering, what city (San'doria or Bastok) has the most people usually in it all the time and just has a plain ol' beautiful look and feel to it (or is just real fun to be in)? Cause I'm getting this gameon ps2.

I like places where people just hang out  and talk alot like a chatroom, I've even seen people on the live cam that just sit around, they must be chatting or something.

oh.. what city is that I see with the Chocobo' in the chocobo stable in the live cam?

pretty sure thats Jueno with the chocobo stales. I'm ordering FFXI next week so i should have it early the next week (1-2 days shipping :D), i'm going to be starting in San Doria because i like the idea of honor, tradition and a king :)

oh another thing, does the music in the live cam the same in that city as if you were playing in that city in the game?

My advice is to pick Bastok, its music is the best, while San D'ora's music can become very painful to listen too. Also Bastoks main building are close to each other, so no wasted time running from one building to the next, while San D'ora's main buildings are spread out to a point where it can be a couple minutes wasted running from one place to the next, which will add up over time as hours wasted. Also San D'ora's population is usually larger than most cities causing the prices there to be the highest in the game, when buying at the auction house. Finally Bastok is the best place to get rich, because the monsters there, drop the best items such as fire crystal which is still the best crystal in the game outside of dark & light to sell.

*Note* I'm sorry to any one from San D'ora if this comparison upsets you, but you have to admit that music can cause people to turn their speakers off.

On my server everybody hates San d'Oria, even then San Dorians themselves!

Start in Windurst, easy money, friendly people, Tarus to make fun of.

Well it really doesnt matter where you start. Id say look at the CP items available by each country. Bastok/Sandoria are more melee/tank related while Windurst is mage/theif. Also its not a bad idea to start where your race is originally from that way you get the rings from your country (ie start in Bastok with Galka or Hume and you get the Bastokan ring). Quests and their rewards will help as you go so check those out. Guilding work you may want to do should also be a factor if you plan on getting into any as certain ones are only found in certain nation(s). Really it should come down to where you want to start instead of having others tell you where to start.

I don't agree with everything said about San d'Oria. Most of the important buildings are not very far from eachother, and by no means should take a couple minutes to get from one to another. Also, the music isn't that bad, and if you really hate it, just lower you're speakers and listen to something else.
Bastok seems a bit to bare for my likings, seeing as it's placed in the middle of a desert like area.
Really, it's up to you to decide where you want to belong in FFXI.

I know its all about my choice but I dont know anything about the Bastok and San'doria, but for some reason I think im going to end up in San D'oria cause its closest to Jeuno :spin:
Even tho that bastok ring looks mighty fine.

Ok, how about you? What do you think works out the best when your trying to progress in Missions/quests in that city?

Windurst, Bastok and San D'oria are all equally to Jueno.....

I like San D'oria nice music and you can get fame faster and easier beside the other three. If you don't like it you can always switch and who cares whats closer to each other? you guys are lazy - -''

lol, thank you, that puts a load off my choice, but I'm not looking forward to windurst. Btw I'm going to be a Hume Female Black Mage. The ring of bastok dosnt add mana so that sucks for female black mages :(

well after this i gotta find a right server..... no no.. ill just let it randomize it, to much pressure

The starting ring isn't that serious you'll soon need to use other rings like +1 INT rings and MP boosts around lvl 10 you shouldn't be wearing it.

Start where you like I like all places Bastok is nice, San'Doira is huge and Windurst is just plain Confusing

I personally am a resident of San d'Oria and am in love with my country... In my opinion, nothing compairs to the lush forest of Ronfuare and the music in that great kingdom is pure brilliance... I say go to San d'Oria... The home of Elvaan warriors of old.
