To my knowledge these "crags of whatever" are used by WHM to teleport people to them quickly but I found something in the strategy guide that got my attention.

On page 108 under travelling from "San d'Oria to Jeuno" using a chocobo it says the following:

"Southeast of Ephemere is the Crag of Holla, where players can rest and remount"

I'm guessing it says to rest and remount the chocobo because it will get tired beforehand if you don't. Now I searched the forum with no information about this, how can you remount at Crag of Holla? Once you get off the chocobo runs away.

The chocobo lady is on the northeast side of the crag, and you can pick up a fresh chocobo from her.

I'm not sure about any other crags, but mea, dem, and holla all have chocobo ladies that you can remount on.

...usually costs you a pretty penny though. Closer to what they charge in Jeuno, compared to the other 3 kingdoms @_@;

Even at level 20 your chocobo will last long enough to make all the way from San d'Oria to Bastok, or from San d'Oria to Jeuno. Only if you want to travel much further would you need to remount.

Chocobo cost is going up with the number of people using a chocobo from that place. As many people are using the crag chocobos after a Whm teleport to there, the prices there are usually quite high. I've seen prices of more than 1k gil to rent a chocobo at a crag. So if I were you, I'd try to avoid remounting.

Note that if you have a chocobo licence, but are currently playing a subjob of level between 15 and 19, you can only rent chocobos in the three main kingdoms, not in Jeuno, and not at the crags.

So the price depends on how many people have rented a chocobo in that city? I did noticed a big change in price yesterday. Naturally I was excited to ride a chocobo, as you can see from the link at the bottom, so I rode all over Vana'diel :). I don't recall exactly all the prices but the 3 prices in Jeuno I got were around 113gil, 225gil and 336gil. In bastok I paid around 120gil and Sandoria also in the low 100's. I naturally presumed that the price was getting steeper in Jeuno because I was riding a chocobo so much lol.

yeah, when nobody rents a chocobo, your price is 70 + (your level - 20). It's 2x that in jeuno when nobody is renting a chocobo. So at lv.50, your chocobo will cost at a minimum, 100 gil in bastok, san, or windy, and 200 gil in jeuno.

now... as people rent chocobos from that stable, the price increases, as the chocobos "return" to the stables, the price falls.

at a bit above 20(maybe 23-25) I could get from San D'oria to east sarutabaruta before it got tired and ran off. it doesn't seem like there's any reason to "rest and remount" at any point, unless you're <20. but really if you're riding anyplace on the mainland just swap to your main and ride. if you're anyplace else...well, i'd be scared to go to those places so weak ;P so dunno.

lv 20-75 chocobo timing are all the same. the time will only be shorter if you're 15-19 riding from starting cities.

i propose this: let's say that you have a chocobo license, and are leveling your subjob... and you want to rent at one of the crags. if you are level 15-19, the rental lady gives you the "you have to have a chocobo license, and a sufficient job level" error. which is pretty much the same error even if you don't have a chocobo license. if the NPC's are smart enough to look at how much gil you have and tell you that you have enough to rent one, at least there could be a different error message, maybe something along the lines of... "I see that you have your chocobo license, but at your current level you can only rent from the three major kingdoms. You need to be at least level 20 to rent from any of the Crags, or Jeuno."
