Identify This spear for me please.

I'm on the Fairy server, walking around on foot through La Tiene, and I see a Battering ram, fight it, kill it. Then an Anonymous lvl 70+ DRG comes up to me, and starts askin me about what the ram dropped... Anyway i checked him, he had the entire full "Dragon" outfit (gloves/boots/cuissas/mask) and he also had a , this is the part im not sure about. Gae Spear / Gae Lance ... something like that, i dont remember the name, but it had 92 DMG MP +10 and some other mod, anybody knows where is this lance obtainable, i dont know why i didnt check closer, but anyway he wasnt very talkative..... by the way his name was " Lavirno"

Gae Bolg or something I think is the name of a really good lance from Ifrit's Cauldron (I think, yet to meet a DRG that had one)

well thats the thing, i have NEVER seen one sold on the AH , and this is my first time i have seen somebody equipped with one... anyway its "sick" lol. so you say its only dropped there, eh ? i guess there is alot of items we dont know about... its like 2nd or 1st compared to the Colossal Lance IMO

pretty sure it drops off some HNM named Vouvre or something, its RARE/EX so you cannot trade or sell it.

um, ya it has like 12 more damage than GK. It is the best lance in the game.

Well, if accuracy is so important to a Dragoon, wouldn't you rather have the +7 accuracy stat than an extra 12 dmg? That's like an extra 14 dex for free, which *should* lead to more consistent hits, faster tp charging and more pentathrusts pounded out, right?

I mean, if the Gae Bolg does 92 dmg, and the GK Lance does 80 dmg, wouldn't the numbers look more like this...

Of course, the "92" and "80" don't represent actual damage, but you can see that the GK Lance scores higher. I'm not exactly sure on how weapon dmg is translated into actual dmg, so I could be wrong on the figures up there. I could be wrong on the whole hit-miss thing too, so I tried to be conservative and assume that the whiff difference is only 1 between both lances.

Well whatever, I think the GK Lance will be the ultimate lance for me when I hit 60...I'm really buying into the whole accuracy thing, because I used to play Phantasy Star Online and accuracy was also king in that game. Too bad I went Elvaan, otherwise I'd have been a Mithra for their unbalanced stats...

ok, ya at lvl 60 the GK is gonna be your best bet.

HOWEVER, if you are at the lvl of the game where you can obtain Gae Bolg, you are gonna be pushing 30acc orso I'd think(someone correct me if im wrong on this). Also 12 damage is a ton, from 80-92 you are gonna be hitting for a lot more damage. Almost as much as Death Scythe?(I think) the 95 damage one whatever that is.

ok tnx for telling me this, also, whatever the HNM that you have to fight... you gota SOLO him or you can party up ? Also, does that HNM ALWAYS drop that item. or is it random, something like hunting NMs for items ( lizzy for boots etc etc )

not sure how tough Vouivre is but most(if not all HNM) require at least 1 group, possible more.

17-18 x lvl 72-75, and even then it may not be doable. Where as Fafnir is a low attack, high defense type HNM Dragon (meaning he only will hit you once per turn for 300, but it will take forever to kill him), Vouivre and Guivre are the opposite. Vouivre has triple attack for 3-400 each on lvl 70 PLD, meaning you could be dead before you safely pull it.
Only know one person on Ragnarok with it, although that person would not be me.

That 7 ACC isn't going to make or break you, if you used the lvl 60 lance over this, you are crazy.

Something to understand about weapon damage : because it says 80 or 92 damage doesn't mean thats what you hit for. You ATK vs monster DEF will affect your max hit. Str bonuses account for maximum damage. Using a 74 DMG lance vs most IT HD junk I hit for around 110ish, sometimes lower sometimes higher depending on monster DEF value.

I would guesstimate Gae Bolg does around 140-150 to IT's but I'm not sure about damage tables post 60 (since I'm not there yet). Would be nice to have the damage formulas or at least be able to figure them out, but as a general rule 1 DMG difference on a weapon for me has translated into about 3-4 damage more per hit, again, might change post 60. Also if you have a Gae Bolg you probably can get accuracy from other items like Scorpion Harness or other high quality + accuracy equipment. GK is pretty damn nice for level 60, but not quite as hot 70+.

I've seen one dragoon on Ifirt wielding the Gae Bolg, he also has full JSE except for the faceguard. It looks just like the Lvl 58 Darksteel Lance.

Just for the irrelevant record, the Gae Bolg was Cu Chulainn's (greatest Celtic hero's) spear. Arguably the most famous spear in mythology, excepting possibly the Spear of Longinus, and I just don't see S-E putting that into the game.
