View Full Version : Drg's Role In Renkei?

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed in the overall role of Drg's in skillchains/renkei. Initially, I was torn between choosing Drk and Drg. I decided to go Drg because of all the incompatibility issues with Thf. As I approach 50-60, I realize I'm completely useless in Renkeis. All I do is Solo Penta. Sure I can start a Renkei and maybe make Detonation if i'm with the right job. But most of the time, I'm making Tranxfixion burst --> Distortion. If you think about it, the Tranfixion burst is useless, and you can skip that all together. So really, what is my role in a renkei? Am I forever cursed spamming with myself? What's the point of waiting for a Drg to do a 3 man renkei of Light --> Distortion, if you can just do a 2 man renkei Distortion, and Solo Penta? Any inputs from high lvl Drg's? Please tell me I'm going to have a more fullfillng role in Renkeis than just Penta penta with myself and Gizmo ; ; The way I see it now, Drk's are so much better for Renkei than Drg's. Sure Drk's can't renkei with Dancing Edge, but they sure as hell can renkei with Most classes. If you look at where Guillotine is, it can renkei with nearly all jobs. If you look at where Pentathrust is, we can only renkei with Rangers, and Ninjas.

You are right, Penta is crap for chains. Basically I use it as extra damage between skillchains since DRG gets tp back fast anyway, its a free boost to damage. One thing I noticed is how groups view a DRG as though they should just spam Penta Thrust - I've been told this a number of times, and honestly, its stupid. If you need say a Distortion chain for Freeze, Double Thrust is still fine damage (only works out to maybe 100~ less than Penta Thrust vs most IT at 53) and the burst is definately more important than the extra 100 damage you'd get from Penta Thrust. Fact is Penta Thrust is super crap damage vs the following : High Evasion or High Defense monsters, which needless to say so so many monsters fit into either category...

I find DRG has decent enough roles in chains that many others can't pull off easily, and transfixion chains can be nice for the BLM-less groups (which is mostly all of them lately). I've seen WHM burst for ok damage on those types of chains, and it is generally good damage for monsters weak to light. With good equipment you will probably always be able to just Pentathrust whenever for free damage, which is a benefit being able to do extra damage and not slow up a chain.

i'm liking Penta's role in skill chains so far. Skewer isn't so bad either, but Penta is really not too bad. in my spt, we're doing Raging Rush >> Guillotine >> Penta Thrust for some pretty big damage. you can also chain with Dancing Edge which is awesome too.
