Is Bard an "expensive" class to play? I mean, I know ninja is the most expensive, but is Bard right up there with them?

What can "re-place" a Bard in a party? Is there a class that people choose to be in PT's OVER Bards?

How is the xp? Do Bard's level fast, or does it take major time like a DRK trying to find a PT.


I would rather not spend half of my life waiting for a PT as a DRK/WAR, and I like the feeling like I'm needed in parties. So at the moment I am contemplating becoming a BRD/WHM.

No one can replace a Bard in some situations. We are almost required for BCNM fights. Af for normal exp groups only a Red Mage could replace some of our abilities. But really no one else can do what a Bard can do to speed up the exp rate. Our elemental debuffs, hp & mp regen, attack & accuracy buffs, and area effect sleep that doesn't get resisted nearly as often as Sleepga. No other class can do all that. Almost all groups over level 30 want a bard for sure.

Necro pretty much summed it up. BRDs are irreplaceable. They become the "WHM" of PTs at higher levels (meaning that PTs without them arent so great....not that they are the healers).

One correction to your initital statement though, Malachi....
NIN isnt the most expensive class...RNG is by far. From lvl 1-15 alone i spent well over 50k on arrows (and thats the cheapest ones). Anyone that disagrees is either:

A) a moron and hasnt played one past lv10
B) misinformed
C) a moron
D) all of the above


And being a BRD is cheap....songs dont get expensive til you are in your 45+ range. You just gotta know where to buy the songs...AH isnt always best.

i think i'm gonna make and Elvaan, start out as DRK/WAR, then switch to BRD/WHM and see which one I like better....cuz i can use elvaan for both of um.

The only real expensive part for a bard is getting the +1 instruments to help increase the potency of your songs. They aren't required though, so you can get by without them. Songs are very cheep, unlike the other mage classes.

Yes, the songs are cheaper, but once you hit 10, you're buying at least 1 new song per level. It starts to add up... Not to mention certain NM drops that many consider to be absolutely essential for a bard (mary's horn and monster signa).

Note that you'll likely need to level up another mage class as sub for your WHM, because WHM/BRD are icky.

The rare drops like Mary's Horn and Monster Signa are luxuries really. Most JP Bards I see have Signa, but after 2 years you can pretty much afford whatever you want. You do NOT need that much CHR in most PTs. MP+ gear are more useful in fact.
