Whats a "World Pass" ?

What is it? I keep seeing people posting world passes and stuff, i'm wondering what they are..

A World Pass (WP) is a code that can be bought that allows you to be on a specific server. It's used when you want to be with friends or something on a different server than you are currently on.

how is server different from each other beside there are diffrent people on each server

Different people and amounts of people are pretty much the only differences unless you count the effects of those, such as price differences in bazaar and chocobo prices.

I'm confused about world passes as well. Let's say I install the game for the first time and I wanna play on the Alexander server. Would I have to start a character, play on whatever server it places me on, buy a world pass for the Alexander server, then make a new character and use the world pass with that character? If so, would it still cost me extra $.75 for my second character even if I only started the first so I could get a world pass and deleted it after I was done with the world pass?

they are always the same price, and i think you do a quest to get them? Unless i am mistaken, anyways thats what i picked up on it from surfing the forums.

Thanks for the help StarvingArtist. I'm pretty sure I understand now, but I wanna make sure. What I'm doing is waiting for the U.S. version to come out. My friend is getting the PS version and I am getting the PC one. Anyways, we want to play on the same server. So my friend can buy the world pass for whatever server he gets on the first time, and he can then tell me the code without me having to create a character first, right? Then I can type the code in, and I would start whatever server he's on? Also, how much do world passes cost and are they affordable for a player who just started playing, such as if my friend wanted to buy the pass right away and send me the code? One more thing: If I create a character and don't like the server he's on, then delete him and make one more character, would it cost extra for deleting him and making a new one?
