View Full Version : Elvaan as rangers????

I have a question since I am doing some research for a friend of mine who wants to go ranger, but plays the Elvaan race.
From what my understand is, Elvaan are a bit of a poor choice due to their Low Dexterity and Agility. Agility being the main governing stat for a Ranger. Obviously, a Mithra makes themselves felt here strongly.
So my question is, is going Elvaan Ranger a wise choice? And if one does take that route, how can they best fit the role of Ranger and overcome their weaknesses based on Racial statistics?
Any help is appreciated.

Race doesnt really matter that much when it comes to playing ranger because you can always beef up your ranged accuracy. You dont need DEX that just affects crits and AGI is every 2 = 1 ranged accuracy, but with a Elvaan you get a nice boost in str for nice dmg with bow and can take the dmg when you ge the aggro. Play what you want when it comes to race everything can be suplmented with a few excpetions.

You know what I was in the Dunes and had a PT with a Level 11 Mithra in our team and he was missing all the time. Then I pass by a group with an Elvaan Level 11 Ranger and he did a ranger shot and he hit that thing 35 dmg without missing. I was then convinced that it doesn't matter. Although the Ranger in our group didn't have anything that boosted his AGI+ but race doesn't matter.

This coming from an Elvaan blm
Race does matter, but not significantly so.
(and if the rng in your PT had no AGI+ equipment, don't call him a ranger. Call him a wannabe. =D)

Well at the level he was talking about, the difference in AGI in Elvaans and Mithra isn't going to be much. I think at Level 70, there was like a 16 pt difference; at that low level, maybe a ~4 difference? That's hardly going to make a difference.
In the long run, Elvaans deficiency in AGI won't matter; there's so many +ranged acc and +agi items that you should easily have +40 from ranged equipment by 35ish. Obviously, a Mithra is going to have higher AGI, but it's not going to add more then a few points in ranged acc. By the time a Mithra and an Elvaan are at their furthest, it's not goint to make a difference.
And yes, it's real sad to see Ranger w/o good equipment. Fortunately, it's a job that won't make it far without the best stuff; in that case, they "wannabes" will drop the job when they end of getting outdamaged by all the other melee jobs.

It made a big difference because the Mithra only had one piece of equipment that gave Agi+1 and no Range Accuracy or anything like. I played with the same Mithra Ranger and now at level 16 and he/she's hitting a little bit more often so I guess those extra levels helped out.
I might consider switching to Ranger once I hit Level 30 white mage, we will see. I do like the Ranger and I always liked bows/arrows and stuff. It's awesome!!! I will probably keep my Elvaan also instead of creating a new Character.

Besides, what other race gets to hold their bow sideways to shoot?

S'probably why they miss more <c c;> mrehe
My elvaan buddy was our puller for the longest time. He loved using his bow as his samurai. Needless to say , he eventually switched to ranger. He loves it and rarely misses. Why?
He's a bonecrafter.
He keeps his gear up and always buys anything that will boost any amount of agi.
Elfs can do it, and from my experience, (sometimes) better.

Nah I don't really like the Taru. I want something that looks cool and strong. Not a race that looks weak and a little bit cute. I'll take Human before Taru and I would take Mithra before Taru also.

I don't understand the significance of a bonecrafter to ranger?
Are bonecrafters all just extremely rich?

Yea I am an elvaan ranger too and i am havin' a blast! However I do miss alot on weapon skills, but i think all races do. My regular hits are pretty accurate since I have dual archer daggers :)
