As a Red Mage (as your main job), list, in order what you believe are the most important stats that should be focused on from items? Granted it's different for all RDM's due to different race's/subjob's, but please list them, in order from 1 to 5 and give your reasons :).

Here's mine, still thinking it over alot though:

1. Mind
2. STR/Attack
3. Def
4. Int
5. Agility/Evasion

As an Elvaan RDM i like to focus on my strong points, which is mind and STR, so i like specializing in heals and white magic (which is why i took whm sub hehe), and (at least until lvl 30) step up and do damage up to par with warriors (got a brand new fire sword for that..hehe). So there are my reasons. I'm considering swapping Def and Int there as A. i don't tank in groups and i am grouping more, not soloing, and B. I tend to cast more black magic since BLM's are semi-rare in a group. But for now i'll leave it since i do solo alot and need that Def :).

So post your top 5 stat priorities!!! ;)

Well, as a Taru RDM, you want to make sure to have HP+ boosts, and VIT+ boost. Also, INT and MND should be high. (you are a mage afterall :p )

1)Defence
2)Mind

As a taru I go for...

Mnd, MP, HP, Vit.

Int is *not* a concern for me, due to the fact I'm a taru, and taking a ninja subjob later.

im a hume.

top priority in party
1. MP
2. INT+MND
3. Accuracy. While my weapon skill isn't cap, I even give this more value than INT+MND.

Stats i like when im soloing is AGI. especially when im having fun with ranger sub

I'm a hume currently @ 27rdm/12blm heres my list

1. +MP = so I can cast more spells in the shortest amount of time
2. +evasion/agi = so when I cast more spells I can then cast more spells!
3. +Int/Mnd = I need both anyways so I keep them about equal
4. +HP = live longer!
5. Defense = don't really care, Defense will reduce damage over a longer period of time (whole battle) while +agi/evasion will avert the 1 or 2 hits that one might sustain while your friendly warrior provokes :) hence I don't really bother too much with Defense

Just out of curiousity - does having a sword with +4 to accuracy or something effect magic as well? Or is that only with meele skills?

1: MP
2: INT & MND (a good RDM should have them close together)
3: DEX
4: DEF
5: HP

When I go leveling as a PT, it is the same as Arli and Jei. I bring both INT/MND+ and MP+ gears. I switch them depending on spells I use.

On the other hand, when I go soloing or making some money, I put emphasis on accuracy/DEX+ gears and attack+ foods.

Well Stat wise, mine would be...

1. Int/Mind (both are equal in my eyes)

2. MP (Can't seem to get items that have much impact)

3. Defense

4. Attack

Been thinking a lil more on this...and here is my stat list now (at least for lvls 18-30.
Tell me what you think ;)

1. Mind (my ultimate goal, i wanna heal as good as any WHM, already have a huge bonus being Elvaan, but i want to be the best! hehe)
2. Accuracy/DEX (I already hit for alot with my STR, but i don't hit that much, and because of that don't build up that much TP, i love doing renkei, so yeah need more Accuracy/DEX to build up TP)
3. Evasion/AGI (I use this in place of the silly Def really, in the end you take the same total damage, but it's best for mages to evade better as i will be able to cast more spells without interruption hehe)
4. INT (BLM's are not too common in a group so i usually have to fill in for them and cast Bio, Blind, Bind, etc. which are all determined by Int, still though i'm unsure about Int's true effectiveness)
5. STR (can never have too much STR, i love doing good damage, and people being like O.o RDM's can do damage? lol)

Def/VIT I rate low because i am, after all, a mage and i'm not supposed to be getting hit anyway, at least in a party. It usually seems like even though i wear full lizzy armor and fight like a warrior the warriors treat me like a mage making sure they keep the mob provoked off of me at all times....i guess that's kinda cool

MP/HP (would be on the list if not for the fact that most MP/HP items are either way too low to be worth it or swap HP for MP or MP for HP...bleh)

Given that Elvaan get better HP than everyone but Galka, losing 4 HP from the Silver Hairpin to gain 15 MP is well worth it, especially since Elvaan suffer in the MP department when compared to everyone but Galka.

Also keep in mind that eventually you're going to spend more time casting than fighting, so it doesn't hurt to work on boosting up your magic based stats. Going from level 17 to 30 I was a primary attacker in one party...and even then I had to help back up heal, so Renkeis were fewer and farther between then they should have been.

Moral of the story: Silver Hairpin gooooood. MP boosts always goooood. Dex/Accuracy....good, but not as good as MP/Int/Mind boosts.

At least in my opinion, feel free to disagree.

Ahh, that makes sense, thanks :).

Now as far as my gear goes, i have this (lvl 18 rdm)
Fire Sword
Fish Scale Shield
Legionniare's cap (choose the 1 int over the extra 2 def of liz helm)
Justice badge
Oynx earring
Shell earring
Lizard Jerkin
Royal footman gloves (choose the 3 attack over extra 2 def of liz gloves)
Shadoynx ring (trying to get sanity ring)
Lapis lazuli ring (tryint to get (another) sanity ring)
Rabbit mantle (trying to get friar's rope)
Blood stone (trying to get lizard? mantle (def 2))
Lizard trousers
Light soleas

Does that sound good? I do plan on getting the sanity ring and maybe the +2 int ring when i get a chance. What lvl do you have to be for the silver hairpin? Oh and need the friar's rope and that def 2 waist item...bah i need money lol.
I dunno, does it sound good?

Most of it sounds decent, though don't break your bank to get items. Elvaan have a higher mind, so look to getting boosts to Int for rings and such. I like the Justice Badge...and Onyx Earings are good. Look up the Friar's Rope quest in San d'Oria. It's not a hard quest if memory serves, and it's well worth doing to save yourself time...and to get it.

One thing I might recomend is that once you hit 20-21 you can start getting newer equipment and really upgrade. Beetle armor is good, I used that for a long time. Looks good too. Sword wise you should be set for some time until you can get a Gladius at 27.

Friar's Rope, a bonus to your Int or two for rings, and maybe another Onyx Earing. You can get the Silver Hairpin at 20, though don't get it at Jeuno if you can avoid it. Prices are almost always higher at the Jeuno AH when compared to other places for level 20 and lower items. But check around to make sure.

Here's the hairpin chart.

- Copper Hairpin [LV1]: HP-2, MP+5
- Bone Hairpin [LV5]: HP-1, MP+3, resist dark +2
- Brass Hairpin [LV10]: HP-4, MP+10
- Shell Hairpin [LV14]: HP-3, MP+9, resist ice +6
- Silver Hairpin [LV20]: HP-6, MP+15
- Horn Hairpin [LV30]: HP-4, MP+12, resist stone +8
- Electrum Hairpin [LV40]: HP-10, MP+25
- Gold Hairpin [LV50]: HP-12, MP+30

If you are at LV18, buy Brass. Then switch to Silver at LV20, Electrum at LV40, and finally Gold at LV50. You can use Gold one until you get AF3, Warlock's Chapeau at LV60.

They are all cheap. Well, Gold cost 30K before but now it was only 15K when I bought it. I don't know why but I may have to thank thieves stealing beastman gold coin or miners gathering gold ores a lot :P

Thanks guys :).
BTW i'm Bastokian (don't ask...lol), will i still be able to do the Friar's rope quest in San Doria?
So, i should probably get to lvl 20, and look at upgrade to these:
Silver Hairpin
Full Beetle Armor
1 or 2 INT rings
1 more Oynx earring (seems kind of like a tiny bonus though)
Battle gloves (?)

hehe that will be alot of money.
I'm taking it too that resists are like the last priority at least right now. Especially with bar-spells RDM's can adapt quite well to casting mobs :).
