i know that i am new to this board but i have been playing this game for a few days now currently lv 30 war/15 mnk about to do the paladin quest a few question concerning the paladins strength in the late game... it seems to be not to much less than a drks str by like 4 or somthing at lv 70/35 war so why does everybody say that the paladin is just for tanking because they have a lower lvl in 2 handed swords? or do they really do that little damage wich i dont see why because their strength isnt that far off from a drk wich can be added to by food and whatnot any info from high lv paladins would be helpfull 70+

DRKs get multiple melee attack bonus passives, use better weapons, and have better damage-dealing skills.

yes but its all added up after the attack bonuses and everything an elvaan pld/war 70/35 only has 4 less strength points than an elvaan drk/war 70/35 and i know drks get skill such as cross reaper and guillo but they still use 2handed swords and so do paladins so how could the damage be so much less to not use it to attack/join partys with yeah the pld gets abilities that lower atk and raise defence but war gets atk up abilities to counter those so why couldnt paladins do good damage with 2handers as well as defend as needed and whats the base damage paladins do with 2hander at high lvls vs dark with no buffs (soul eater) and whatnot

As Arnda said, Dark Knights get multiple attack up passive skills. Believe it or not, these passives increase attack quite a bit. Virtually all of the Dark Knights abilities are geared toward attack.

Passives
- Physical Attack Power up - [level 10]
- Arcana Killer (greater damage to magical enemies) - [level 25]
- Physical Attack Power up - [level 30]
- Physical Attack Power up - [level 50]

Actives
- Last Resort (raises attack but lowers defense) - [level 15]
- Soul Eater/Darkness (Eats away at HP with every successful attack) - [level 30]

The attack power is further hightened depending on whatever subjob the DRK chooses. Needless to say, DRK is all about attack. That 4 STR difference doesn't really matter when you have all of these abilities that increase attack. The Paladin has very similar abilites but are directed straight toward defense. When it comes down too it. Dark Knights = attackers; Paladins = defenders.

o.O

Wow, Just wow.

Ok....here's from what i've seen

a Normal paladin against a Incred Mob...

does 20-30 damage(with 1 handed weapon and shield)

With two hander....i guess it would be 50...but considering your taking extra damage and can't use shield bash(VERY USEFUL)
its not worth it.

If your a paladin No matter what race you are, your there to take hits, not deal damage. accept it....or be a Dragoon or Dark knight or somethin' ^.^

good luck

(mu computer is acting up...but i'll say this... 50 damage is in no way good, damage dealing classes do much much more)

Yeah ...
Trust me, you might not notice it now, but when you start playing PLD, you'll notice it a lot. I can barely give any kind of wide-range point of view, but this week I decided I'd try to level up my Dark Knight just to see what the game was like from a full-out attack point of view (^^* Now I've got .. magic attack, support, tank, and damage dealer point of views. BLM/BRD/DRK/PLD). Anyways.

Seeing as my DRK is only about level 15, that's all the scope of a view I can give you in damage comparison, and I know it'll change a lot with more stat boosts and towards level 75, and the strength difference will probably just become further.

As a PLD around level 11-15, I ate Boiled Crayfish and focused fully on defense. I dealt about what a warrior would do. That is, measly little 3-4 damages. Nothing big at all.
As a DRK at these levels, I ate Meat Mithkabobs and focused on attack as best as I could. At these levels, all the warriors were still doing their basic, small damage, while each swing I did about 30 to 40 damage, with 60-70 damage critical hits.

Playing PLD, I'm only at level 25 now - but I still hit for about the same amount (T=T please note I'm a TaruTaru, so that'll effect things a lot).
Paladins are NOT a damage dealing class. No Paladin should think that they should be doing almost the same damage that a Dark Knight can do.

Later on, DRK/WAR's will be doing several things. Last Resort, Berserk, Souleater, plus Guillotine, and things like that. Their damage (as well as that of other damage-dealing classes) is beyond Paladins.

Stat calculators lie a lot, it seems. ^^*

I pt'ed with a PLD/war using 2H GS.

Did almost as much dmg as me but then again, we were like lv 22.

I bet when a LV50PLD/war flips up defender, the dmg goes to sinks like hell.

Im a lvl 50 pld, and i can tell you that drks out dmg me by allot, but by no means do i do "terrible" damage. Drk hits for like 90-130 dmg 2x slower than me, i hit for like 30-45. This is against IT mobs. So added up the drk does 90-130, i do 60-90. Thats w/o soul eather, so yea drk outdmges pld by allot.

One more thing to think about, slower weapons get more tp back when using weapon skills. Even though vorpal blade is a 5 hit WS, and Gilotine is a 4 hit. The drk will be able to throw out more WS than you will be able to upping his dps.

One final thing to think about. It does not matter how much dmg you do if you cant hit it, and guess what.. PLD cant hit things at all. Do what your good at, taking hits, healing, flashing, and doing a small but continuouse stream of dmg.

Dont worry about doing damage, it does not matter/exist to you. You like nice hungry food that gives you Vit+def buffs and you like a bard to do ballad 2 behind you and not acc + songs for you to not miss.

As you get to level 65+ you'll be more effective in lvl.3 rennkeis which you'll get soon when you reach there, not worth understanding now as you will be better off learning more better ways of tanking.
