Stealing Bad for Party

I'm a pretty new thief. One of my party members claimed that stealing reduces the drops for the entire party. Is this true? Sorry, if this has been answered before, but I wasn't able to find the thread.

Whoever said that should be punched in the face, then shot with a cannon filled with wood screws. Stealing only benefits YOU and doesnt hurt anyone (unless you consider the fact for that one second you steal you arent doing any damage to the beast)
