Ok, here's what I wanna do:

Since SE obviously isn't going to release a Japanese language support for the NA client I want to put Japanese into my macros. If you go into the USER\######\mcr.dat file you can see all of your macros. I would like to enter Japanese into this file so that I can use SOME Japanese in the game. I've heard this works, however, when I enter Japanese into it (ex. ?。ケアルします <t>) it just resets my macros. Does anyone know how to fix this? If anything, maybe I could get the mcr.dat file from someone with the JA client. Any ideas? Please let me know. Thanks!!!

heres what i did but it requires the japanese version to do.

I edited my macros on the jpn version then transfered to the NA.

but i REALLY hate using romaji to talk to jpn its pretty ugly compared to japanese.

Can you do me a favor? I do not have the JA client so I can't do anything. Can you please send me your mcr.dat file so I can copy it and edit it to my liking? I'm espically looking for one that says:

/ma "Cure III"
/p ?。ケアルします <p1> (Cure to <p1>)

I'm not sure if it'll work, but it should. Let me know what you think!

Thanks

OR another idea, copy and paste one of your lines from mcr.dat. You can open it with notepad. I highly doubt there's actual hiragana in there, just a bunch of computer symbols. Maybe if you paste it in here, I can copy it into mine. Thanks!

Actually, when I copied my friend's mcr.dat file I could use his macros. And if I open my mcr.dat file and edit the text it will show up in my macros. But when I type kata or hiragana in the file it doesn't work. I'm thinking that its gotta be a different coding system. So itd be worth a try to make a mcr.dat file on the JA client and copy it to the NA client. Can someone please help? Thanks!!!!!

Try opening it in Sakura (http://sakura-editor.sourceforge.net/) instead of Notepad.

I don't have either client, I just wonder if that would work.

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded and used Sakura to edit the file and I'm getting the same problem. I can enter Japanese into the file and when I save and open it I can see the changes, however, when I start the game it resets all the macros. Thanks for the idea though, it was worth a shot. I'm still waiting for someone to send me their mcr.dat so I can try that^^. Thanks again!

if u don't bother using a japanese software, ffxi macro editor such as vana hand (http://vanahand.s29.xrea.com/) might be able to solve the problem. (for vana hand, macro editing feature comes as added feature, though.)

this of course is based on the assumption that this kinda editor is able to handle the macro files of na client.

Ah!

I think that's it. The NA client keeps reverting the edited file and stripping out the double-byte JP characters. So a JP mcr.dat file wouldn't work either, as soon as you start the game the macros would all be reset because the NA client can't read the characters.

Hmm.... that's a little harder to solve than I would have thought.

I tried the Vanahand macro editor and I got the same problem. In fact, when I open the mcr.dat file in notepad the JP characters are replaced with ?????????. Tazirai, can you please post exactly how you did this? If I have to, I'll order the JA Client so I can do this. Thanks! Let me know if anyone else has any other ideas!!

Do you think I could get the mcr.dat file as well? I'd like to put kanji into my macros instead of ugly romaji as well. ^_^

This is all weird to me, because I see Japanese players' Japanese messages typed in kana all the time.

All I get is ????? also when i enter japanese into Vanahan so im not sure what im doing wrong. When i entered something like this : ?A?O???b?T?[ (Aggressor) it worked fine, but im not sure how you would find a translator or something to make those ?AO???b?t[ for it to work properly. I saw this info from Bside at :
http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34796
I was wondering how exactly u got the japanese to translate like that because it worked in Vanahan.

for those who wanna give it a try, i uploaded the files;

http://junya.s6.xrea.com/jpmcr.zip

sorry that i couldn't meet the requests of some of u, as January was the month of nightmare for me, and i was sorta forgetting.

the zip file contains 10 separate files, each for corresponding palettes, and they r the ones i use myself, so some of them won't make sense to u anyways. some of them r the ones i made for one-time only use and didn't care to delete, some r for non-party purposes.

i'm sorry, but i won't take any questions regarding this file, thus it's provided AS IS. if ppl start asking what's this and what's that, it'll become the long japanese class and completely off of my hands. also, i don't use vanahand myself, so i can't answer any questions regarding its usage along w/ this file, either.

those still want it, help urself.

you need a program to input kana/kanji into vanahand such as JWPce, since it doesn't read the windows IME like the NA client of FFXI.
