Job weapon skills......

I was thinking of become a Thief then go Dark Knight/Thief
If I started as a Thief would I have to use daggers or something resembling short blades? And if so does this count with all Jobs?
I ask as I want to wield a sword like Tidus's (a swift sword) and wanted to be a Thief also.

as far as I'm aware, thieves can use daggers, claws, one handed swords, and some range weapons. So a sword like Tidus's might be possible.

If anyone has the game and is a Thief could they say if they have had any swords equipped?

If not I'll probably go Warrior.......ZZZZzzzzzz.......bit boring though?
