I'm having trouble, I want to do ninja, and red mage, but I'm not sure which one will be the dominant job, and which one will be used as a subjob. My plan is to level them both up to 30, and decide then, but any advice? I Know all about rdms, but I haven't been able to talk to any higher level ninjas.
Thanks :D

Both have their ups and downs. So here's my 2 gil, for what it's worth.
RDM/NIN - Blaze Spikes, En- buff with dual weapons, Regen, Stoneskin, and Phalanx makes you a serious gil farmer who can decimate a LOT of easy con mobs.
Somewhat limited in groups, though, as you tend to use your mana more than your melee, especially at higher levels. By not subbing a mage subclass, you lose out on alot of abilities, as well as improved manapool.
+str and accuracy items are your friends.
NIN/RDM - so far I've found it works fairly well in groups. I can combine the RDM buffs with Ninjutsu to debuff the hell out of enemy, plus have the leftover mana to act as constant puller (Dia pulling is great), and help a bit with healing (not a lot, obviously, but a BIT :p). Downside, obviously, is no Provoke. At later levels many view a Ninja without Provoke (to blink tank) as useless, so that may hinder you later on.
Juices for mana regen are your friends.
End result - I'd say both are "novelty" combos. They're not the BEST combo for each class (generally RDM/BLM and NIN/WAR work best), but they can still work, as long as the group doesn't mind.
They're damn fun though :)

*nods* if I wanted anything other then a novelty combo, I wouldn't have played a taru :D. I figured that rdm/nin works well because even with the nin sub I have more mana then the alternative race with magic using sub... *Flex*.
I guess it falls back to the whole "Level both to 30 and play whatever I like more."

rdm/nin is my new play testing. I need to get it to 20 so that I know how well its going to be as a viable sub for my group, we'll see. My only concern is powder storage. I start feeling the need for more space quite quickly these days.

Why level Ninja to 30 if you're not sure about it? You know that since it's an advanced job you don't really buy yourself anything by having it at 30. :/

Dont even attempt to level ninja until youve done at least 2 gobbiebag quests so you can hold all the powder you need, its a huge inconvenience to restock when you get a good party going . You will want to have lots of stacks on hand and still want to have inventory space for loot drops ^^.
If i did RDM with ninja i'd probably also have water crystal stacks+pineapples on hand to make juice as needed - inventory space would be at a premium :o
