...
So a bot more or less?
...No. Try actually playing the game.

Nah, he is talking about something that doesn't exist.
The EQ one barely exists. An emulator is someone making a "server" for our current client which resides on our computer and running npcs on it in some rudimentary form where we could cast and possibly fight them. You'd connect to it apart from Square Enix, like "Some guy's computer at this IP address."
With a large scale mmorpg like this, which is pretty much all server side, its nearly impossible. It took them years and years to really get to a "very crappy" point with the everquest emulator. The most recent triumph I heard about was being able to connect with your artificial character and fight the spawned "Lady Vox" dragon with some other people. As far as I know its still very far from anything resembling an mmorpg. What prevents it is you have to "make" lady vox or whatever else you fight. Its really a ton of programming and work. Essentially, SOE said that you'd be doing MORE work in a way to get a working emulation server of the EQ world than if you just built a new MMORPG yourself from scratch (Well, except you'd already have the graphics and zone art.. for the most part.)
UO has gone much further in terms of emulation. There are several server worlds people can play on with the UO client, which are not Origin/EA.
So the answer is "No." No one has made one for FFXI and it would be a gigantic amount of work. SOE (Everquest) went as far as saying that if anyone could make a good one at all, the person would be such a god of game making that THEY'D hire them. They actually have hired at least one person from Show EQ, which is more of a spy program, that is where Rowyl the talented interface guy comes from.
Rather than play your existing character on it, which only exists on square enix servers, you'd be playing one as made up as the npcs would have to be. So as the original poster says, it would be a practice client to practice and see summons you don't currently have and such. It would come nowhere near to being a threat to Square Enix's business, since as I said above it would resemble nothing like a finished game. Even so, SOE(everquest) and other companies are of course very opposed to such a thing being made (even if they did hire the people who made a good one ;) )

thanx so much for the info, that explains a lot, and i kno the company's (SOE, Square Enix) dont like these kind of things, and in no intention do i want to hack or do anything to my actual account, just a previewing thing like u said, and the EQ emulator actually looks pretty good, of course not everything is spawned, and yes they have a staff of really smart computer programers so yeah, i guess we wont b seeing a ffxi emulator anytime soon >_<

The problem with them thoug is that people set up their own private servers and take people away from the owners of the game. Ragnarok Online had their server's leeked and instantly loads of private servers were setup using either the official leeked servers or one a few different emulators. The population of the official servers dropped drasticly removing well earned revenue from the company's profits.

Problems with the government? The only problems with the government I've heard RO had as the Thai government who enposed a 10pm curfue on online gaming because Thai kids were playing it all night and not getting school work done. One guy even died in an internet cafe because he refused to leave the computer for several days while he was playing.
And people think FF can be addictive.

Wow, died from not wanting to leave the game? Thats commitment....oh, and stupid too.
Hell if i had to play RO for several straight days, i'd prolly die too. I actually thought RO was a decent game (well except for all the hacking and botting anyways) until i played FFXI.

umm there already is a server emulation thingy in the works.. not sure how far it is (or if its even started), but i doubt it will even work for atleast 2 or 3 years. Doubt they will even get far because the site still said looking for programers and stuff... but people are trying so i give it about 2 years till they figure it out... but then it will still be WAY buggy... look at the EQ one... its still isn't that good... most of the servers are down or don't work.
