His stats won't be affected, but he won't get a ring like you get. I heard he can purchase one later if he becomes a Bastok citizen, and can afford it (some point system, I forgot which though).
Well, a free ring is .. well.. a free ring, all the stat rings are quite nice to have around especially as a newbie, I haven't gotten much into re-swearing allegience to different kingdoms, but I've heard its sort of a quest and it'll setcha back about 20k, as far as stat loss goes, you'll only lose the stats that the ring bestows, and I beleieve coming from Bastok the ring would do some vitality (can't remember) and at least 2 other small effects. If it makes you feel any better I'm a Mithra sworn to Sandoria and once you get to a certain level the stat ring becomes obsolete anyway, so if your really looking to stick together and you must be different races I'd say just choose a city and both of you start there, the advantage will not be largly noticable.
Of course its still up to you -_^ but this is my two cents on the subject ^^ :O

you can get the ring throught exchange your cp for item. however, you will find other very useful rings after you play the game and got many money:biggrin:

And your two cents helped us decide - thanks a lot. i thought they were added stats given to u, not an equipable item so thanks everyone.
Your quite welcome
Just make sure you keep posting on the forums as you get more questions :D
