They're both basically rip-offs of Ultima Online. But why bother slagging off a game that you are paying to play?

It didn't take long because the utility has been around for a very long time, with square doing nothing to stop it working. It would be like having a bank which was unguarded at night, with no alarms, then being surprised when someone used something called a "truck" to haul money away ;)

I sure as hell would have. I mean sure the name gets me interested in the first place but the name has no baring on the gameplay and everything else. I see what you're trying to say but you really can't compare EQ to FF lol.

FF = EQ with better gfx and less items:biggrin:
Doesn't really matter tho, back on topic:p
how about we stick on topic, hmm?
Higher missions= FF-like storyline. I can't wait to change countries so I can see the rest, really kickass storyline.

Yes yes, the topic is hax0rz and why they suck.
Ready... go!

I've been reading around and hmm, the h4x0rz are really here. But in actuality the speed hack is a third party program, that is used for other purposes. It was made far before FFXI...
I can't see why square doesn't just input a small 10k patch:
if ffxi.exe on, end (programs process).exe
Problem solved, everybody can rejoice... *Sigh* Is it me, or is there something more to this problem?
Also, some other sites are implementing macros + windowed mode for FFXI, God, maybe we should DDoS those hackers ;)

Yes, there is more to it than that -- manipulating the OS in that manner is dangerous from a programmer's standpoint, and ultimately useless. The hacker simply morphs a small portion of the program so that it no longer fits whatever profiling method is used to drop the process -- or even worse, they spoof a legitimate process.
What they can do is implement an encoded position-change check in the client, with a CRC that syncs to the server on occasion. You don't want to use pure server positioning, because we've seen that done before, and it sucks up resources horrifically.

Just a piece of info 99.99999999999999999999999999999% of speedhack users are script kiddies that probably don't know what the processes are and are too stupid to notice they're running at normal speeds. No need to get complicated, plus this is a shareware program, FFXI can also contact the creator and ask if they could set something up.
And how is it dangerous to kill a certain process? I mean, this program, from what I've read (I know the program, I did my research) doesn't seem to be relied on. It's just a tweaking tool, tweaking tools are dangerous themselves.
Just my two cents.

That's the exact problem. Most of the people using it are script kiddies. That means they follow the programs as they come out in the warez community. Two days after a proc-kill patch, and they'd have another version to battle against. And then another, and another...
What makes killing processes dangerous is that you have to go through the OS, and to some extent override it. Programming is designed so that the computer does what it is told to do, nothing more, nothing less. Multi-threading (all modern OSes do this) allows for each program to have its own little runtime environment that it works in and controls.
If you override the program's control of that environment and force it to halt, you can leave artifacts in system memory that can affect other programs. (This is why the Task Manager warns you whenever you manually halt a Process) What's worse is that this program manipulates the system clock. If it's halted in the wrong place in the program...
It's just bad programming practice. Fix the hole in the dam, don't try to reroute the river; and for God's sake, stop lugging buckets around. ;)

Meh, no point in talking about it anyway.
I just went on some h4x0r forums and laughed at some of them saying they were caught. A GM teleported them to this room and confronted them. I just asked if he was banned.

I belive that they get two suspensions (6 days) to fix it and then the account is put on hold. Then you have to go through the whole process of trying to get your account restored. Apperently people are having problems with getting their account restored.

Extreme your such a geek. You think EQ is better then FFXI, yet you've obviously dedicated your life to FFXI.
Idiot.

Lets not kill eachother? ^^;
A game this moderated I don't think is going to have way too much of a Hacker problem. I'm sure it'll happen from time to time unfortunatly, but not to game ruining extents. I'm not that worried about it.
I'm also used to PSO, and how unbelievably fast that game seems to get chopped up and hacked. ^^; So this is paradise for me as far as thats concerned.
