View Full Version : Party Philosophy (Give advice pls) ^^

Basically, just wanna figure out the "ideal parties" here. It helps then to let people figure out who to invite for optimal EXP. I'm no expert, just posting what I've observed, which is extremely liable to be wrong. I'm gonna need advice from everyone here.

First off, let me classify similar jobs. Again, if I'm wrong, say something.

Meatshields: Warriors, Paladins, Monks

Powerhouses: Thieves (Backstab), Dark Knights, Rangers

White Mages <- in a class of their own

Backline Fighters: Black Mages, Red Mages, Bards

I can't seem to find a place for BST...

Valkurm:

The valkurm levels, white mages are really short in supply, and front line fighters are everywhere. A WHM makes the PT. A PT with a whm and 1 other person counts as a PT. A PT with 5 non-white mages and and empty slot doesn't count as a PT. If you have a whm, you'll be on you're way soon, but if you don't... Then pull out a book and start fishing. Have at least 3 front line fighters (at these levels, the DRK's defense isn't as bad as it gets to be  so they can act as an decent meatshield). A Bard will allow you to chain faster and kill sheep, but having 2 BLM's will help you finish off the Totetote's a lot faster.

Summed up: 1 whm 3 fronts <- required. 1 brd and 1 blm = chain tsuyo's, renkei on totetote. 2 blm's = kill tote's in a series but without chain due to mp regen, renkei on totetote.

Quifim:

Early 20's: a whm and many fighters will own those little worms with low def. Gained through observation, sadly, but it seems to work. Maybe throw in a brd for pian to make it easier for the whm between fights, and/or a blm to do lotsa damage without so much fear of hate (since worms can't move :P). Make sure to silence the worm tho.

Mid 20's: killing clippers and giants. At night, the wights are tasty. Not quite sure what's the best here cuz many PT's will just go to batalia at this stage so I haven't had much experience here. I do recall though one PT where we had a bard, a ranger, a thief, a war, and me (drk) + a whm, and we were getting chains on totetote clippers. The standard renkei was Hard > red lotus > fast > red lotus, and the bard subbed war (not recommended tho) and would join in occasionally... So whenever we renkeied on Giants we'd have a 4 hit renkei, and occasionaly 5 which was insanely awesome to watch. Shoulda recorded it :p Well that was a great PT, everyone levelled once and 2 people levelled twice, but I really can't guarantee that this party will work, especially because the selected weapons were a big part of it.

Batalia (oh dear):

Mid 20's: Killings orcs and tigers, mostly. Get yourself a powerhourse and 2 meatshields. A powerhouse who can taunt is preferrered, but not needed. If the taunting does right and the WHM is healing them decently, then generally you shouldn't ever have a case where "a meatshield is very low and the other meatshield taunts him off, but then the WHM heals the low-hp meatshield and generates hate, but the low level meatshield doesn't have enough HP to taunt it again." In this case, the powerhouse can taunt for emergency, and have the meatshields pull it off ASAP. If there's no emergency taunter, then the low level meatshield has to make a decision: Let me die and whm raise me later, or let whm die and have to wait for the next PT to wander along to raise him? And if worse comes to worse, run into the hole and zone to escape. No PT is perfect, and sometimes ppl WILL die when things go wrong.

WHM needs no explanation. I usually try to go for either a blm and a bard or another whm and a blm, but I would go 2 RDM if absolutely necessary.

High 20's: Evil Weapons (Ebi's)

I can't remember much of this; I levelled here w/ my war but it was quite some time ago. All I can remember is that the backlines and whm should heal while the frontliners charge up on EVERYTHING in the vicinity; grab a crab and charge. You won't miss, and it should be dead without anyone losing much hp. Grab an easy gob, a Ba. If you see a tote gob, just fight it till it blows itself up. Then a whm will curaga and heal while you go on charging. Once everyone's 200%+, pull over and Ebi, unleash, rinse and repeat. Don't forget to run away when it starts lifting its arms up

---------

And that's all I've ever been up to  Higher level advice is desired. Also, if there's something wrong here, don't hesitate point it out. If it's all wrong, let me know. I'm half expecting it. Note that this is all written from the frontliner's point of view, and I have no idea what goes on in the back.

Or is this post doing more harm than good? Should I delete it altogether?

Mid 30's -

2 taunters, 2 thiefs, 1 whm, 1 whm/brd/blm.

Eldieme, D-6 or so on batallia map. The lost souls can be slaughtered by a pt with a combo/red/ combo renkei or something of the like, ending with a thief using feint/sneak attack. This will kill off a totetote+ monster almost instantly, and you can chain for up to 230 bonuses. In 2 hours I gained over 6k xp this way, very fast kills, very short healing time due to 2 thiefs massive damage.

lv range 59-60

Orcish Dragoon, Dreadnaught, Champion

1 Warrior/Monk, 1 Ranger/Thief, 1 Blackmage/Whitemage, 1 Whitemage/Blackmage, 1 Bard/Whitemage, 1 Thief/Monk

We totally cleared out Davoi. Only 1 taunter, but she is doing her job pretty well(thanks to full set of AF) so the monster only focused on her, and occasionally goes after the mage, but got back to warrior again afterward.

This was one of the fastest lv pt ever.

About link, thanks to Bard, and Blackmage. They put the link monster to sleep, and we chained them after we beat the current monster.

Yes!! This is one great PT :) The only complaint I have with this PT is.....

I wish the thief shares some of her gold coins stolen with the rest of us ><

Just to add: Monks can be meatshield, but shouldn't be as depended on like Paladins. Sure they have incredible amounts of HP, but that piss poor deffense willl get to them eventually. They should be the last kind of meat shield.

Early 30's (31-33, 34 maybe)
Dude, entrance to Garlaige is so G for these levels. Nothing but totetote's and +'s, and they are all bats and beetles who are obviously not as strong as other enemies. In fact, if you have a fairly good pt combination (i.e. 2 or more healers with 3 good fighters), the Siege Bats or Borer (sp) Beetles can be defeated even without a renkei. Each battle will get you easily 175-200 each.

From what I observe about the BST is they can offer steady damage and some amount of tanking similar to a monk alone. They have the advantage of using slashing weapons and against certain enemys have a massive damage advantage.

If the beastlord is "good" then they are awesome damage dealers as LONG AS THEY CAN CONTROL A PET.

Good pet controllers are hard to find ni any MMPORG.

Yeah that tells you what to kill. I didn't see that  But this thread is actually to post the "ideal parties." Ideal != usual or minimal. It's what totally kicks ass for each stage. Now I know the chances of assembling such parties are low, but still. If you made a great party that gave you awesome exp, let the world know about it, right?
