Why the hell would anyone lay out 15k (price on my server anyhow) for that scroll? The quest was so retardedly easy. It cost me 1000gil to buy some beastmens blood, and BAM, quest is done. I dunno, the price seems over-inflated.

OMG 15k?????when I was playing in Beta it was 10k omg they r raising the prices on things soo much and when I bought the Drain Scroll for 10k I didn't think it was worth it but it was better them traveling from Bastok to windurst I guess....:dead:

Since you get the quest in the Chateau, only Rank 2 Sandorians can get the quest. Therefore, all the mages coming outta Windurst gotta either cough up the 15K for the spell @ AH, or cough up the 10K to change allegiances, then do the first 3 Sandorian Missions, then cough up another 10K if they want to go back to being Windurstian. So 20K plus a lot of time and energy, or 15K nice and easy.
The price is a sweet moneymaker if you are a Sandorian that could give a crap about Drain, and its a fair deal if you are of Windurst nationality considering the lengths to which you have to go to get the spell.

BZZZZZZZZZZZZT! Wrong!
You can be bastokan or windhurstan and do the quest. You need to have accepted the mission that gives you rank three to be able to get into the church and have high enough fame in Sandy to get him to give you the quest.

At lv.12 it's not worth it, but as you increase in level, it is definitely worth it. By lv.30 or 40, your Drain should be pulling 100-120 hp for only 21mp. That's not only cheaper than Cure II, it provides marginally better healing, and it does a fair abount of damage to the enemy. You can also magic burst with it to increase damage as of the November patch. I'm sure 30k seems rediculous atm, but 30k is not at all difficult to get by lv.30. Take a couple hours off of leveling and do some quests. Black Tiger Fangs, etc. Or, if you've been crafting, 30 k can be gained by selling your wares at AH in about 10 minutes :P (12xSheep Leather sells for 8500 on midgardsormr, it requires a tanning skill of 0 to make a sheep leather...)
The other reason it's so spendy is that it requires a fair amount of fame. At least 20 quests and quite a few repeats. For a Windurstian mage, it takes about 2 rl days of questing in san to gather enough fame. The quest can actually be completed by anyone who is rank 2, assuming that you have accepted mission 6.
As a side note, when i did this the first time in beta, i didn't do enough repeat quests. I had 25 san d'orian quests and he still wouldn't give it to me. So if you want to get it quicker, just pick on the bunnies near town and turn in tons of Rabit hides to Parvipon.
If you choose to hunt the beastmen's blood on your own, the Thread Leeches in Pashow drop it. Only took me about 5 minutes to get mine.

You can just buy stacks and stacks of bat wings and give them to the guy in N.Sandy (can't recall his name atm) to raise fame high enough to do this quest without doing any other ones hehe. The return should almost pay for itself as you get 200gil for every two that you turn in.
Sandy quests are great though, I'd only recommend this if you've done a number of them and still can't get the quest.

How many stacks of batwings roughly if you haven't done any Sandoria quests?

It is 19k on my server. It is a bitch, I am a 15 and I am trying to get it. I am presently in the process of having of having one of my Sand. friends get it for me and giving it to me.
Man, it is expensive to be a BLM. I need to find a money maker. If my friend doesn't come through. I am just going to cough. Up the cash.

Why not just do the quest? I understand people who don't know about the quest and pay that much for the spell, heck I just sold the one I quested for 18k, but I don't understand why you wouldn't do the quest if you know about it. It really doesn't take that long to get the fame. And it's not like there aren't other reasons for getting your non-home city fame up.

It's a bitch to get there. I haven't been there yet. I will probably end up going there and getting it once, I get stronger. But to go there by myself I will probably die on the way.
I am only a Lv15

I will go out on a limb and say that most of the people that buy the spell know that it is questable. The time spent travelling to Sandy, gil spent buying shit loads of quest turn in items, time wasted doing all of the turnins and running around, seems like more of a pain in the ass than shelling out the dough. Also, remember, not everyone that is buying the spell at 20k is a NA player. The are alot of jp people that might be leveling blm as a sub and have the money to spend.
Some people build their own house. Some people have someone build it for them. Some people buy one that is already built. All three choices have differing levels of convenience vs price. Personally I had a LS friend do the quest for me because he already had high fame in his hometwon of Sandy. To each his own...

I have a question. I am trying to get Drain which is a bitch, to get.
I decided I would go to Sand Oria and get it, the problem is you need Fame to get it, well I don't have enough I have done a couple missions.
The one where the guy wants the 2 bat wings.
The One for the Lady to give her Husband the Ointment
The one where you have to go to the King'S Tomb and give him the Water.
And one other.
What I want to know is, does anyone know any quests that are fast and quick. I really just want to do them and get back to Windhurst and finish working on stuff there.
My other question is, do I have to change allegiance to get in the Chataeu or is my Fame just to low.
Help would be appreciated.

You need to be rank2 (mission 6) for enter Chataeu.
Pick your quests of choices below to build up fame.

As a Bastokien, it took me 4 hours to run 20 quests and make me famous enough to get the spell quest which cost me 600 gil for buying the blood from AH :)
Another good thing was: I got few thousands gils from quest rewards as well hehe.

Use Elemental Seal, then cast drain. You'll like the results.
With that you blow through a lot of resistance and grab that HP which is just like a damage spell but heals ya. fun combo.
