i'm sure many of u have already checked out the just-released November-December Announcements, and that the top page will also have an info on this matter quite soon. but because of its significance, i wanted to share this info here.
anyways, here's a full text;
The Next version update is planned for December 16th(Tuesday)
The raising of level cap to 75 will proceed as per the schedule mentioned in earlier updates.
There are currently no plans to raise the level beyond 75. Upon reaching 75, current characters can be further enhanced with high quality equipment dropped by notorious monsters or created through synthesis.
We will also continue to provide new ways to improve your character through the introduction of elements such as new weapons skill quests to be added in the next update.
The release of the limbo areas has unfortunately been delayed until after the next update.
Also, limbo areas of the three capital cities will now be released before the field area's.
The following is a simple explanation of the limbo area's
-What is "limbo"?
Limbo is another dimension that exists for high level adventurers and is not accessible from Vana'diel by normal means.
Certain requirements must be met in order to enter these areas.
It will be necessary to form multiple alliances beyond the standard 18-member group to survive the battlefields of limbo.
Further details will be announced in later version update reports.

FINAL FANTASY XI Development Team
now, some of the significant points in this;
1) final lvl is 75. it turns out to be lower than many have imagined or hoped.
2) release of limbo areas postponed. w/ lvl 75 now being the final lvl that we can reach, this could cause many high-lvl players quit ffxi before waiting for limbo areas to open up.
3) adjustment for the mobs' placement in several areas. not that significant, but could change the whole way we choose the place for leveling.
4) patch for sneak attack. may not seem to be that significant, but it could significantly change the way melee fights, especially lvl 60 and beyond.
5) chocobo at a lower lvl!! enjoy ur ride. :thumbsup: ah, no, well, yes, but it could change the way ppl looks for a party. instead of waiting in selbina or dunes, ppl may start waiting for an invitation in san d'oria or other kingdoms, doing some crafting, coz now, they got a safe ride to the place of hunt. (lvl 14 and below still can't ride, though.)
i hoestly thinl this is the biggest patch since the rise of ziraat, w/ its significance taken. and now that the final lvl cap is officially 75, ppl will either quit ffxi, or start looking for other ways to enjoy the game, which s-e eventually has to furnish us w/.
