... stop attacking you out of the blue when you get high enough level? I've been thinking of going mining, but I really don't want to get attacked by some Qudavs when I don't have my equipment.

Also, what is the best (in your opinion) place to go mining around Bastok?

PS. Do monsters drop darksteel, gold and/or platinum ores in Zeruhn Mines?

As far as I've seen, anything that's too weak to be worthwhile will not attack you. However, an old EQ tradition (http://www.gucomics.com/archives/view.php?cdate=20010111) still lives. Don't rest near agro things that are too weak to be worthwhile.
