Ok, i'm a lvl 14 WAR with a claymore and my 2hand sword skill is 31. My attack is 48.
Now my BLM friend, lvl 13, with his staff skill to like in the 20s has an attack of 50, he's always hit harder to me. And he is a darn mage. I don't understand this, how can i raise my attack, i have like 8000 gil. Thanks

U could also get things such as Rings or some weapons that will have an effect of increasing your attack or your hp.

best way to level up these type of things is get into a good party where your fighting IT (incredibly tough) monsters.
my elemental skill skyrocketed up when i started partying...i am now level 70 in the elemental skill..
obviously normally i wouldnt be able to fight these type of monsters so my skill would be moving alot slower....but parties enable you to fight monsters way out of your league and your skills will skyrocket.
your skill will only go so high on certain monsters....it will just stay the same untill you fight higher level monsters...this is without a doube from my personal experience the best way to increase these skills.

If you're trying to out-damage your blm friend physically, there doesn't seem to be any way of doing that if he is doing higher damage at lower combat skill levels. But at higher levels, your stats will have greater difference, and war will get beserk at 15, warcry at 35, passive phy atk up at 30, also weapon damage rating is also higher for those other than staves IIRC, so you'll be doing more physical dmg than blm at higher lvls.

Yeah, mages will always have the upperhand as far as attack goes at lower levels. You will never out damage a mage during the lower levels. However, things start getting better when you get higher. Pretty soon, the warrior class's become the damage dealers. Dragoon and Dark Knight being the most notable of the melee classes. The Rangers are just plain scary. Don't worry, you'll soon out damage your mage friends.;)

I thought warriors were meat shields first and foremost.
Although a bunch of warriors whacking away could make up for the lack of a BLM in many situations from what I've seen so far.

well i noticed that my attacks are doubling his now, and he lvl'd to 15. But my greatsword is at almost 40 now so maybe that's it :). Go claymore!
