Will PS1 Controllers work?

I have the USB adapter and have my PS1 controller hooked in, but my computer will not recognize it. Does it have to be a PS2 Dual Shock controller?

I believe it must be either a PS1 DualShock or PS2 DualShock2...

It may depend on which adapter you are using. I am using the Super Dual Box and have both a Dualshock 2 and an older PS1 controller (no analog sticks) hooked up to it working just fine.

i have the one from radio shack and it works just fine. you just have to make sure to activate it in the config screen but it works great.
