First post here, sorry if this has been asked before. I live in the UK and only just got the game. I need a new video card so right now, I have an active content ID in the free trial period, but am unable to play.
From what I know, PlayOnline ID is free of charge, you can purchase 16 FFXI content IDs ($12.95 usd / $1 per month) and 1 Tetra Master ID ($1 usd per month).
Whenever you purchase an FFXI content ID, you need your registration code for each one. I know these cant be reused or replaced, but does that mean cant be reused on a different playonline account? Since you obviously have to reuse them for the extra content IDs.
When you cancel an ID, all data is kept for 3 months. Is it possible to reactivate the content ID after the three months? I know all data will be gone, but is it still possible to reactivate it? If not, can you still purchase a new one with the same FFXI registration code?
Same with tetra master, can you cancel but reactivate after three months?
Last question, since I'm on the free trial right now, but unable to play the game, should I cancel the content ID during this period? If I do, will I end up losing the rest of the free trial period once the the period is over?
Sorry for all the questions... thanks for any help.

Can anyone help? If I can, I'm gonna cancel until I get a new card.

Some are correct, some are incorrect.
Your PlayOnline ID is free (technically, because of how charges are made and tied to the Contents ID not the PlayOnline account).
You can purchase up to 16 FFXI content IDs PER ACCOUNT. Your first content ID will cost you $12.95 USD PER MONTH while additional content ID will cost you $1.00 USD PER MONTH; but you get your first 30 days free for FFXI across all Contents ID Meaning they will not charge you for the first 30 days of your first content ID on all your content IDs.
Once you use your PlayOnline registration code, it is forever deactivated and tied to your PlayOnline Login ID. Then the moment you use your Final Fantasy XI registration code while logged in with your PlayOnline Login ID, that registration code is forever tied to your PlayOnline Login ID. So while you can reuse your Final Fantasy XI registration code to get more Content IDs for your account, others can not use it. (I tried.)
When you cancel your account, your account will not stop until the end of the month. After the end of the month, the account will stop, but your data is saved for three months after that. After the three months the data for the account is lost. HOWEVER, at any time after service has stopped, you can re-activate your account by logging in again, and it will ask you whether you want to activate the account or not.
The moment you activate your contents ID, your 30 days free period begins ticking, and even when you ask to cancel/delete the contents ID, the 30 days will continue to tick away even after the cancel. So once you start the contents ID, you use up your 30 days free period.
This free period applies to each game SEPERATELY!
EX: I activated FFXI in January 2003, I get free play for Final Fantasy XI until February 2003. But when I activate my Tetra Master Contents ID for the first time in June 2003, I also get one month free on Tetra Master, regardless of when I activated for FFXI or my PlayOnline account.
However, deleting all my Final Fantasy XI contents ID for three months and then signing up again for Final Fantasy XI will not get me one more month free.
In theory, you can keep your xxx@pol.com address forever and free if you do not purchase any Contents ID, since the charges are on the Contents ID not on the PlayOnline account, you can keep that e-mail address, login and check your e-mail all you want.

Ok thanks for that :)
So basically, you keep your PlayOnline account forever then.
Oh, one more tiny thing:
My content ID has nothing, no characters or anything since I cant even get into the game. If I cancel this, then after 3 months, will it be lost? So if I want to play FFXI, I'll need to re-purchase another content ID.

Yes.
If you have nothing, after 3 months, it will be as if you have no content ID. But within the three months it is a DEACTIVATED content ID. Apparently there is a distinction.
And if you purchased a content ID, and have no characters in it for the whole month, you still get dinged. -.-
